how to get swing weight up?

Recently purchased a Cobra F9 with tensei white 60 tx playin 43.5. Just had it weighed at C9! That's with the 14g and 2g weights on the bottom. I also have the 18g weight.

I want to get this up to around D3, but dont want to just add a bunch of weight to the head. I read through the archives as much as I could, and sense that I can add some lead tape to the butt end (either under the grip or below the grip).

How much weight will the 18g weight add? Also will putting lead tape on the butt end change the performance of the shaft?

Adding any weight to butt end will decrease swing weight.

Changing the 14g to the 18g will add 2 sw points. 2g = 1 sw point

To get to D3 from C9 you need 8 grams of weight added to head.

Add lead tape to the clubhead. It's a time honored practice.

Also, you don't have to get stuck on D3. If C9 is too light, D1 or D2 may work for you better than D3. I find chasing same driver swingweight between different shafts is a folly more than a fix. YMMV

This right here. If you "read the archives" on swing weight and didn't know that adding weight to the butt end decreases it, you didn't do enough research. Plenty out there on the concept with a search of the web.

Play it as it is, then add small strips of lead tape until it feels "right" (if they are even necessary). Adding lots of weight to a driver head once it is shortened makes it harder to square the clubface, so it may play even better with a lower swing weight.

Following up on this, I decided to move on from this driver. Trackman was quite obvious that I was misfit for this as total distance is 10 yards less than my Rocket M5 (what a cannon). I have been fit in to a SIM Max D with Aldila NV Green 65 X.

 

Speaking of fittings, it gets quite annoying having to shell out hundreds of dollars to get Trackman time any time you want to check your equipment. I wish there was an easier way.

When building for myself I finally didn’t even look at the swingweight. Use feel. How does the club feel. As another poster mentioned don’t chase swingweights. Ben Hogan knew his clubs so well from club to club he could tell when a club was off 1 swingweight point.

YES, there is a alternative, but its not common, and its called Trackman RANGE, and thats only available on exclusive golf clubs where players pay a membership to be able to use Trackman as much as they want for practice or what ever. *https://test.mytrackman.com/trackmangolf/products/range

Thanks Howard. Trackman Range is great when youre practicing. The range in my area was the first in the US to implement it (Carls).

Then you are spoiled, and still ask a question like you did?....maybe its because you are spoiled haha :-)

Dont forget to use it for your own testing of clubs, getting a fitting is nice if the club fitter knows what he is doing, but as long as you have access to Trackman Range, you are able to make your own side by side compares of what ever you like, be it your friends clubs or demo clubs you borrow for testing.

The DIY tune up can be used for ALL clubs in the bag, but focus is on the driver since its a bit special compared to the other clubs we play, and read post #8 VISUAL FITTING while you are at it . it will be useful if you have a playing buddy with equal interest, so with all this combined.....you would be even more spoiled than you already was with Trackman range locally, since now you can do it ALL by yourself.
