Love traction but hate blisters

Recommended Posts

What shoe options would you recommend for a serious player (mini-tours and Korn Ferry Qualifiers) who wants traction but has bad feet and is very prone to blisters on the heel and big toes as well as other toes. The heel blisters are almost incapacitating. Walks all tournament rounds. Currently wearing Adidas Tour 360 2.0 BOA. Shoes are proper size. Wearing Features Elite socks. I guess you can sum up the question as what is the most comfortable shoe for walking that still has great traction.

Good idea. You're first priority needs to be comfort. Spend a couple hours at a large golf store trying on shoes to see what fits your feet the best. Maybe you'll find something. New Balance, while not the most stylin shoe out there, should have removable insoles that can replaced with a custom insole made for your feet.

I find that no show socks slip on my feet and cause problems. It's only ankle socks for me.

I have had a similar issue to which I have found a solution. I put athletic tape over the areas that blister. I have not had a blister since I started doing this. I hope this helps!

I used to play a number of sports where foot blisters could be a real problem - tennis, soccer, ultimate frisbee. Much higher abuse on the feet than golf.

The trick that a lot of us used was separating the friction layers that are causing blisters. For some, that's tape (as mentioned above). However, a very effective trick that a lot of us use is wearing two pairs of socks. The layer closest to your skin should be an ultra-thin sock. Cycling socks and "sock liners" often fit this criteria, and those are often good for golf because they're available in low cuts like a lot of golfers like them. Then you wear whatever your regular golf sock is on top of that. Using this setup, most of the sliding now occurs between the two socks, instead of between your skin and the one sock. This really works much of the time, and is super easy to try.

Excellent answer. Works for me, too. I played hockey 6 times a week for 10+ years, once I tried this method, never had any blisters again.

For those who think there isn’t much foot movement in a tight hockey skate, I have weird feet and always got blisters. Couldn’t skate without pain for ten minutes every practice/pre-game. Terrible.

I would agree with others on looking at inside of the shoe first. Socks and then maybe inserts. For socks, the amount of cushion and the materials can make a world of difference. I haven't tried any Feetures Elite (as mention by OP) but I do now that within the Elite line itself there are different cushion levels. If socks can solve the issue, it's much cheaper to try to find the right socks than experimenting with shoes, and if you find the right answer that way, it can work for multiple shoes.

I second what dubblebogey said, I do the same concept prepping my feet for long hikes and rucks. Powder feet, use injinji toe socks for base layer then kentwool socks for main layer. I don’t need to do that for golf but addidas boost gave me hot spots on back heel, switched to g4 galliventers and always wear kentwool socks and haven’t had any issues.

Best of luck
