Yep, just showed up today, head only, so if you were looking at the head only one it may have been the same.

it looks absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to throw one of my extra shafts in it and try it out. I’ve wanted one for a while since they seem so good according to everyone!

Nice, I almost bought one off the bay with an x100 last year that was like 25 bucks, but passed on it. I’m pretty happy about this one cause the price was good and I’d rather throw a shaft I have in it anyway.

and, on a positive note, I just called my course to see if they were staying open and they are, so I can test it soon

You guys are making me think I should reshaft the V Steel I picked up for myself a couple years ago.

For those interested in the "steel shaft in fairway wood" commentary, I put Rifle steel in mine, it was the wood shaft I had in a Trimetal many moons ago. It was ballooning on me a fair amount, so it's just been sitting around. It's something I've noticed with steel wood shafts, both Rifle and DG, it seems steel shafts produce more spin than the graphite shafts I've used over the years.

Had it show up starkly with a MacGregor M42 driver I have lying around. It came with an NV shaft, hit OK, shaft was too soft. Put steel in it, it ballooned like crazy. I put an Aldila One in it, it became instantly usable, and even pretty decent for me.

So, if you're fighting spin, steel may not be so wonderful in your woods. Emphasis on "may".

For those of us that aren't diehards, would somebody like to explain what the "paint-break" version looks like? Or is? Or how it is different? Or anything else that might be relevant :)

Paint break means it was made for a tour pro or anyone that was on staff. They have different specs based on who they were made for but typically sit square to open rather than the stock closed version. They have a smaller hosel and lofts will vary some will be more or less than what’s noted on the club. So you can have a 15* that is actually 13.5 and it would be a bullet club. You get I’m saying. They also could be heavier than stock heads. Basically they aren’t clubs that were bought at a golf store off a rack. Stock ones sit closed like most stock fairways. Oh and I think they can be bent which is what the paint break is for so you don’t bust the paint on the hosel when you bend it.

I am a V Steel fan and I don't even own one. I have hit my father's 5w. It's the gold standard of all FWs as far as I'm concerned. I do play my trusty R5 Duals in one of my backup bags which are similar but still not quite as nice as the V Steels.

Got my new to me 7 wood regripped. Stock regular flex graphite w/ Lamkin UTX standard +2 wrap. Man this club is easy to hit and has tremendous height! Have been trying to find a 3, 4 and 5 with regular flex graphite. Can't find them locally lol. Probably will just reshaft my 2017 M2 5 wood and M2 3 wood to regular flex and call it a day. Great club and excited to play it tomorrow.

Wow. This thread started in 2012...

Here's a shot of the classics I'm playing right now. My V-Steel 3W is the oldest club in my bag by far (and that's saying something considering the stuff I carry).

Before I fixed some things with swinging the driver, and more recently picked up the M2 that suits me well, my V-Steel was my best option off the tee.

V-Steels were from the era of titanium alloys and all metal club heads as opposed to later when they started introducing cheaper carbon fiber and titanium-carbon fiber mixed materials in order to shed weight and make the clubhead with cheaper materials. Alas, it was a time when clubs were still made with quality and durable materials. That's why they are still good clubs today and will be in the future.

@EaglesGolf99 I'm but a V-Steel poseur. A wannabe. I game Tour Edge Exotics CB2s as my woods. That said, I would have zero issues playing V-Steels.

Seeing that the V-Steel thread has yet again shown up on the first page. Figured might as well post a pic of the family . Play the 4, 7 and 9. The 3 wood is in retirement, 5 wood on hiatus. Shafted mostly with Grafalloy ProLaunch Platinum shafts. The 9 wood has a GD YS-6. With no swivel hoses to contend with (or needed), reshafting is a breeze. The sole design is marvelous, easy to launch from varying lie conditions. Fairway implements is the one part of the bag where there's little inclination to change. The investment in the entirety is substantially less than the cost of one new OEM fairway. For what, a few extra yards? Hit the V's straight with acceptable distance, that's good enough for me.@DeNinny. Never contemplated material construction of the V-Steels. Other than it was some form of metal alloy. The V's were released in 2001 (?) and still going strong as evidenced by this on-going thread. That's longevity. Have this nagging concern with all the carbon fiber used in club heads these days. What's the durability of the head over time? Does structural fatigue begin to occur at some point? One wrong drop of the club shatters the carbon fiber composite? Not mentioning for a response, simply a pause for concern.

Here’s mine: had Continental Golf redo it in matte silver last year and now it’s too pretty to game:

And I thought I was a V-steel fan! It's night here, so I won't take a picture now, but I should put a photo my collection up as well. I have the Tour Spoon (hardly ever use it), 4w (not in the rotation at the moment), 7w (always in the modern bag), and the 9w (swap it with the 23* hybrid).

The local second hand shop has what looks to be a tour edition 3w (paint break on the hosel), so the family may be increasing.

@Fellaheen51 those are great questions and an excellent "thought experiment" regarding carbon fiber and plastic crap vs metal alloy durabilities. Regardless of the overall and actual duration before fatigue and stress fractures, it's no question that metal is better. The raw hardness and overall materials science properties is enough proof of this.
The biggest issues that I've seen first hand were 1) the glue joint between the carbon fiber body and metal face on the first "unmetal" woods by TaylorMade had early failures that were posted by some WRXers in the past and 2) I've personally seen the plastic weight sliders on again some unmetal TaylorMade woods break and rattle inside the head on my buddy's clubs. Neither of these issues exist in the venerable V-Steels.
Anyhow, beautiful set you have there! I think having the option of swapping woods with long irons is great. And with your full set you can swap all the way down to 9w. That's awesome! ??

Man I am a believer now! Regripped 7w regular flex is MONEY! Straight with a beautiful ball flight. Used it off 3 tees and 1 fairway. Will now be looking for the matching 3 and 5 as I hit this beautifully
