Anyone hitting it 300yd+ using a stiff shaft?

i wouldn’t change driver heads yet... plenty of good cobra shafts on eBay... what are you playing now? I’m partial to aldila but there are plenty of great shafts out there... I’d suggest trying a heavier weight if you want more control. I think finding the right shaft is one of the best ways to improve control... I’d recommend the ventus blue, aldila silver and maybe one of the hazardous shafts for demo.

im working on golf fitness to increase chs... hoping to catch up to the average member here and get to 120... first I have to go to the doctor to see if I can get cortisone in my hip... sadly, this whole story is true.

120 is actually a goal of mine with gym work once the gyms are back open after following a guy on twitter called fit for golf who's stuff is really interesting!

I don't want to admit it on here though as some will just accuse me of embellishing my speed for golfwrx!! Haha

Choose a shaft flex based on transition, tempo, and what feels good, followed by launch and spin to dial it in. A good player with a smooth transition could play a ladies flex If they had too, and still hit the ball over 300 yards no problem.

In the good ol' days, you needed an x-stiff graphite shaft because shaft tip stability was terrible. Now they can make shafts that are very stable without making it a board.

If you transition hard and tend to hook the ball, go stiffer. If you transition easier and tend to slice the ball, go softer. Most people play shafts that are too stiff imo.

For those seeking more distance (i.e. everyone), I'd focus more on increasing smash factor than increasing clubhead speed. People are leaving a lot of distance on the table with their existing swings from simply poor contact, which is often compounded by drivers that are too long. It's great to workout and get faster, but your goal should be ball speed, not clubhead speed.

I don’t disagree and I’m always focused on improving my striking... but I’m trying to get fit for personal health, so why not do golf centric workouts that improve clubhead speed? Gym time and range time rarely compete for my free time (I’m usually in the gym early)... only major issue is injury and soreness... deadlift days don’t lead to low scores of the course, but I have a crazy belief that hitting when tired helps me.

I have found the F9 head to be fade biased. Easy to leave open and hit big blocks. I doubt the shaft is too stiff. Could be the wrong profile for you though. At address I find the F9 driver sits square to open. Try changing the adapter setting for the shaft and add loft to close the clubface a little more. You could also try the heavy weight back to help the head rotate through impact. More loft and and heavy weight back may add a little spin, but should move your miss a little further left.

I think this thread is missing a critical element here. On a good strike, I'll carry about 250m, and often get the roll now, because of landing trajectory. I've played the Ping Tour shaft in 65s, 75s, and 65x. Of course the 75s knocked off some speed, but generally that was what I'd use to minimise misses left-right. My swing speed is higher, my contact is better, but the only real difference between the S and the X is the window. Yes, it feels different, a little bit. The S has a feel that the head drags a little slower, but there's more bend. It's a very minor difference.

Key for me was getting a lower window with the 410. I had a 400lst, and that had a "more optimised" launch angle. It got way up there. When the wind was at your back, all you'd do is launch it into the jet stream, and you're good. Reverse true, of course.

But here's the thing. On a calm day, the performance difference was all in launch angle. If I lowered it with the X in the 400, it would do the predictable thing… 1-2º lower. What that would mean in total difference… depends on all the factors, but swing speed and ball speed weren't materially affected. So if you go to an S, you might get more (or less) distance based mostly on launch angle, and feel. If the feel forces you to slow down, you'll get less. If it's all the same, it'll come down to trajectory, and maybe a touch of more spin, potentially. I keep my 410 low… very low. For me, it's far more consistent. Probably a good 10-15m shorter than my potential, but I have control, and a lot more GIR.
