Fell in love with walking

Fortunately for me, I discovered my own "in love with walking" just a couple weeks after playing my first round of golf (25 years ago now). The first couple times I ever touched a golf club, I rode along in a cart with a friend who let me hit a few shots with his clubs as he played nine holes. Got hooked on the game itself right then.

Then I got my own clubs and I rode and played with him a couple more times before venturing out for a solo round. I walked that first solo round and it was simply more enjoyable. And better exercise, to boot.

As a beginner I would ride if everyone else in the group was riding, walk otherwise. It took a few years to work up the nerve to be "that guy" who insisted on walking every round, no matter what. But nowadays I probably average one round a year (if that) riding for some social reason. The other 99%+ of the time I walk. It's just not the same experience hopping in and out of a cart.

Got to the golf course around 5 PM today and it was a slow round. I am so glad I walked as it makes the wait less painful. I bought a seat for my Clic Gear and used it a lot today waiting for the groups ahead. I played at a much better level today, as the grass was perfect, and the firm fairways added insane amounts of distance. Had time for nine and that is the perfect amount for walking. Just a beautiful day for golf.

I haven't ridden in a cart once this year, been walking and carrying my bag until 2 weeks ago. I finally broke down and bout a Clicgear pushcart and my shoulders are so thankful. Walking just makes golf so much more enjoyable and you have time to think about strategy and what club to hit, etc. It also gives me time to just enjoy being outdoors and to take in the scenery.

i bought one of those seats for my clic gear last year and it's a lifesaver...Im waaaayyyyy over the weight limit but she hasn't given out on me yet! lol love it

So true. I hate dealing with the other guy's ball. This is a huge reason against carts. I only care about going to my ball

I use mine a lot. When I am behind a slow group and no way of getting around, I park under a tree, have a seat, and grab the water bottle.

Nothing better than walking first thing in the morning. Only time I take a cart anymore is in the afternoon summer heat.

my wife and i both work long hours at work. i often think how nice it would be to take the pull carts and play 18 everyday.

It was hot and humid and I didn't have my push cart, but we were out of town for the 4th and on Friday played the little 9 hole course I learned how to play on and played until I was a sophomore in high school. Would have rented a cart for the wife to drive and I would have walked/put my bag on the cart, but nobody was around when we showed up so we shouldered the bags and off we went.

Tied my best 9 hole score this year and didn't mind carrying a bit (but my bag is pretty light). Best part was when we were done I went into the clubhouse to settle up and cost . . . . $10 each! Course was in good shape, fairways not lush but playable, greens were really nice. $10!

I've walked every round this year except one. That was last Sunday and it felt so weird. I bought a push cart that made it sooo much easier and now I'm buying an umbrella to keep me out of the sun. I will walk whenever I can from now on.

For years I rode almost exclusively. Now that I am getting back into the game after an extended hiatus, I find walking to be much more enjoyable. I feel like I get a much better feel for the course, but I find that it really helps me get into a good rhythm. The hurry up and wait aspect of using a cart on a crowded course throws me off I think. Im a die hard walker now and will only ride if playing w/ a group of friends I know won't appreciate walking.

I will take walking over riding any day of the week, I find that it prevents cool down time. always walking makes me get a feel for the course and makes me ready for the next shot physically. I think riding I become to "relaxed" and it definitely affects my game.

I bought a new standbag last week- Sun Mountain H2N0 Pro, great bag. I love walking. I also realized I love carrying, now that there's enough sunlight for 9 holes after work. You're just free wheeling on the course, no need to push your trolley around bunkers or think about parking it on the other side of the green. Just walk over the green, get a first read of your putt and set down your bag near the green.

Currently, I'm trying to find out if carrying 18 affects my performance. I usually have a slump between holes 12-15, if that doesn't change, it's not the carrying.

I might use the trolley for a tournament to be able to save energy.

Took a cart for the first time this year this past Saturday (played with the father-in-law who hadn't played golf in like 5 years) and I certainly missed walking, especially since we hit an eight-some on the 16th hole (looked like a Bachelor Party).
