I finally had a true appreciation moment with my 60 degree Glide 3.0 Eye 2.

I had a tight fairway lie, 82 yards away, into 5 mph wind, with a back pin 6 feet from the fringe/fairway collection area. I hit a full 60 degree shot and the ball flew the green by 2 feet into the fringe/fairway collection area and I immediately thought damn why did I do that...but then the ball spun back all the way through the several feet of fringe/fairway leaving me 10 feet up the hill which I made for par ?

I have been hitting these wedges so many times into a net and I thought they must have worn grooves by now. But nope!

Just picked up the Glide 3.0 Eye 54* and 58* wedges after playing the original Glide 54* ss and 58* es for several years. Have one practice session and one round under my belt with the new wedges. Very happy with the change. Much better spin. I’m not a good bunker player. Dropped 20 balls in a fairly deep practice bunker. Hit 20/20 out of the bunker. First hole on the course had 80 yds to pin. Hit the 54 a bit fat and came up a few feet short of the green. Hit a pitch with the 58 and holed it for a birdie. Several nice 1/2 to 3/4 shots with the 54 on the course.

I'd love to hear more about your experience with the two grinds (SS and Eye2) and where you find them best to use. I'm currently testing 54SS and 60Eye2. I usually use my most lofted club to do my chipping around the green, but I'm finding that I'm inconsistent with the Eye2 with 8* bounce. Some chunks, some short, some way long if I deloft too much.

I like the Monte "use the bounce" technique for chipping/pitching, and I seem to have a hard time with the 60 Eye2 with that method. I'm now debating if I should use the 60 only for bunkers, and the 54 for all my greenside work (unless magic is needed). I'm also debating whether it'd be better to switch my 54 to Eye2 and get a 60SS. I assume the 60SS would be a bit more forgiving with the extra bounce on chips, and then my 54Eye2 is a dedicated full shot/bunker club only.

I know that this is really on me to determine my own wedge strategy, but I'm curious about your experience since you've had both grinds in the 54.

Boiler Up! I typically use my 54 for approach shots 85 yds (full swing) and under. For pitch shots I typically use my 54 if I have green to work with and want a bit of run out. For shots with little green to work with or I need to stop more quickly I’ll use my 58. I use my 58 for most bunker shots unless it is a longer bunker shot with no lip to worry about.

I haven’t practiced or played nearly enough with the Glide 3.0s to give a complete picture, but I can give some initial impressions. The Eye2 grind seems much better out of the sand for me than my SS and ES grinds were. I noticed on the practice area that I was digging multiple times on wet, soft tight lies using the 58 Eye2 and I didn’t typically have this on my old 58 ES. I chalk that up mainly to needing more time with the club. I think it is easier to open the face on the Eye2 than the SS and ES were. Visually the squared heigh toe is very different than the more traditional shape from the original glide.

@pkshooter nice avatar!
I think before I start testing new clubs I’ll give myself some time using the 54SS a chance as my main chipping club and relying on the 60eye2 only when necessary.
I played 5 holes yesterday before a storm rolled in. 3 of those I had a chance to chip with the 54 and I have to say it worked well for me.
thanks for the insight!

Today I ordered a 54* Glide 3.0 SS. I have been playing the 54* and 60* Eye2 grind, For chipping around the green where I primarily use the 54* I was more comfortable and performed better with the SS grind when I had the Stealth 2.0. Ironically, I really like the Eye2 grind for the 60*. It is perfect for bunkers, hop and stop pitches and short sided shots. For me, the different grinds seem to work better. Really looking forward to getting the SS 54 on the course.

FINALLY got the Glide3 54* SS in play Sunday. The range was closed, so on the course with it having never hit a shot. I wasn’t perfect with it, (hit an approach heavy and left it short of the green), but I am loving it for pitches and chipping. It earned 4 “gimme’s” and lead to only 27 putts.

I like both the SS and Eye2 (54*) for full and partial shots. For near the green, my eye simply favors the SS. It just feels a tad more versatile for me. Easier than most others I have used to play a “release” or a “stopper”.

PING surely has made me a believer in their wedges.

Any thoughts as to when the 3.0's must see a price discount? My poor 2.0's have over 150 rounds on them, and the grooves are pretty much toast.

They’ve only been out for about a year and with new releases delayed due to the plague, it may well be a while. New releases are typically 18 months to 2 years.

I would like to tell you that this wedges are really good and very forgiving. I've been playing them for about a month or so. To tell you a little history, had 85 yards to the flag on a very, dry and bad looking lie, pulled out my 60 degrees Glide 3.0, of course didn't hit the shot the way i wanted, get into the car and drove for the front bunker, no ball there...asked my group "where is my ball ?' they looked at me like was kidding, it was 2 feet from the hole. With my old wedges i'm pretty sure that ball would be in the bunker.

Try them, they are good.

After reshafting to a heavier shaft this winter, I am amazed so far. About 30 rounds into the season with a 54/58 combo and I am floored with performance. Very stellar club.

The Eye2 is great.....it's really a modernized version of the old classic. Maintains some of that old weird shape but the edges are softened a bit and it looks more "modern"

It's like a diet coke version of the original

I really love it though. I'm getting a lot of spin, more than i got with my Callaway wedges....and it is still SUPER playable off various lies and a total winner in bunkers, as the original was

My friend just went in for a fitting for new wedges and tried the Ping 3.0s and the CBX 2.0. He walked away with the Clevelands as he said he felt the Pings were too heavy. I play Glide 2.0s and tried his new Clevelands and agree that the swingweights were very different with the Pings being much heavier. I like the heavier feel in my wedges but he did not. His Clevelands do look great over the ball and are very forgiving. Can't go wrong with either choice imo.

I have found the spin control quite good with a wet ball. This morning for example I journeyed out with the "dew crew". No problem with spin. The greens being wet didn't want to hold much, but the ball was holding the green just fine on approaches and pitches were checking pretty well too.

I started with the Eye2 in 54 and 60. I really like them. I struggled a bit with the 54 for chipping around the green and opted to get the 54 in SS grind for familiarity. I find it a bit more versatile. I really like the 60 Eye2 and it stays.

I wasn't ignoring your question, but I really needed to think about it. As I said earlier, I like the Eye2 for full and partial shots and even like the way it looks behind the ball after only a short time using them. I realized Sunday while playing that I think it may be just the lie angle. My 54* SS is blue lie (1* upright) and fits more naturally when I stand over chips near the green. It never occurred to me to check the lie on the Eye2. I did know that when I played it, I needed to be more conscious of keeping my hands low. Especially if I wanted to open it up.

Ironically, with the Eye2 I learned a new technique of chipping with the heel elevated and using the toe end of the club. Interesting and never seemed to leave one short because because I caught it heavy. I think there are times when this will be a good shot to have in the bag.

Now I'm on the fence as to whether I want to adjust the lie on the Eye2.

I was finally ready to pull the plug and order a set of Glide 3.0's, including a 56 WS, but the talk surrounding the Eye2 got me to hesitate. I've never hit an Eye2. Rather than take a chance, I bought an older Eye2 sand wedge for a few bucks. First, anyone know the loft on these older Eye2 sand wedges? To my eye, pun intended, it looks like a 58 degree club. It feels very heavy.

Second, is the playability of the new Eye2 the same, or similar, to the original models? Basically, am I wasting my time? I assume the club will be excellent out of the sand, but I use my 56 for approaches from 105 yds, and chipping around the greens. 'Curious to see how the older model performs.

The original Eye 2 SW was 57.5 degrees. This is the one with the goose-neck hosel and wide/flat sole (the Eye 2+ SW was 53 degrees but the sole is much different. It has very high measured bounce but the sole is very thin - basically like the recent Glide TS models). The remakes (XG, Gorge) were 56 degrees (for the SW).

I needed a new 56 degree and it was a no brainier even though I didn't try and new wedges out - Ping 56 Glide 3.0 SS was the way to go. To me it's the only interesting new wedge on the market. I love Vokeys, but that lineup is just getting tired. I've only chipped around with the Glide so far. Really looking forward to putting it in play as I use a 56 for everything 100 and in. Now I'm just disappointed I have to dump the grip it came with when I up size to midsize grip.

I got a chance to use the old Eye2 today. I believe it's an Eye2+. Wow, it's a wonder out of the bunkers. Where has this club been all my life? Lol.

On the other hand, it does like to dig on full shots. I was playing in some soft conditions, and hit a pair of 100 yd shots fat. I think the ball needs to be placed a little back of center to ensure ball first contact. It's an odd club to look at, but I think I can make it work. Looks like I'll give a 56 degree Glide 3.0 Eye2 a shot.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered 3 custom Ping Glide 3.0 Wedges from Carl's Golfland. Two to four weeks projected. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I went with a 52 SS, 56 Eye2, and a 60 SS. Each is an orange dot with the stock wedge shaft, +1/2", and MCC Plus 4 grips. I currently play a 60 degree 2.0 with the WS grind, but wanted one with a little less bounce. My experiment with the Eye2+ was fantastic, so I went with the 56 Eye2 instead of the WS that I was originally going to go with. Hopefully the Glide 3.0 Eye2 isn't radically different than the old Eye2+.

Wedge prices have gotten goofy. A new wedge used to cost $100. Now they're $150 to $200 depending on options. Three wedges, tax, and shipping ran over $500, and they'll last me a season at best. Pfffffttt.
