Callaway SUPER!! Hybrid review

I have a 17° with the stock Tensei Pro orange. It is a high launching low spinning hybrid for me. It flies fairly straight as well. I am still trying to get used to it, but early impressions are favorable.

Cool. Trying to remember if it has adjustable face angle? Does this launch kind of like a 4 wood?

It does have a Callaway adjustable hosel, if that is what you are asking.

I have never played a 4 wood, but I would say that I was surprised how easy it was to elevate the ball with this club. It has a high penetrating arc, at least in my hands. My only issue so far, is that my contact is inconsistent, and I am not hitting the sweet spot as much as I expect to. I need alittle more time on the range with it.

I’m using my 17 degree with a DI 85g instead of the stock Tensei, but this thing is a cannon. I’d say it’s more of a 3 wood replacement than a 4/5 wood. Launch and spin seem to be similar to a 3 wood too, but I haven’t had a chance to check that on a LM. I’m thinking about trying out a 20 degree to fill that 5 wood slot.

Picked up one of these on the BST and like it so far.

It's the 20, I actually wish I had the 17 and 23. I do not hit fairway woods well, this seems easier to launch.

Not really. Crashed on my mountain bike and had to get some stitches- delayed my season a few weeks. I'm back into it but currently have substituted a 4-Utility iron which seems to be working quite well. I still plan on getting some launch monitor numbers to compare the 4-iron, Super hybrid and 4 UT. I'll update when I do

Just ordered myself one a 17 degree with the stock stiff shaft to try. No one anywhere near me had a lefty demo to try. So I just pulled the trigger. Now to stop myself from pulling it again on a set of z785 forged.

I bought the 17 and 20 several weeks ago and have been very impressed. The larger head does not bother me. Similar to some of the Adams hybrids from previous years. Very easy to hit dead straight. Not hook machines unless you really yank one. Easier to get up in the air than you would think. I'd recommend them.

I'm just glad the 50% bonus doesn't apply to the super hybrid. It's basically the only way I've been able to resist getting one.

Is it possible to order a Super Hybrid for a right handed player but have it built with a LH hosel so that it could be adjusted flat? (upright setting in LH hosel would play opposite for RH player)

Haven't seen much discussion of this new club and its attempt to blend the fairway wood and hybrid categories. I bought a 20 degree couple weeks ago and now have 3 rounds with it. Just ordered a 17 degree. Here goes.

For me, this club is a game changer. I've never been great with fairway woods off the deck but am pretty good with a 3W off the tee so I want that length and control when the driver is mad at me. But I've always had a big hole in my game from 200+ out of the fairway. I rarely go for a par 5 in two, even if the approach is inviting, because my ability to sweep that 3W cleanly without thinning that shot has never been good.

The Super Hybrid is either a large hybrid head, or a small fairway wood head. It comes with a real deal Diamana Orange Pro hybrid shaft, and is 1.5 to 2" shorter than most fairway woods in the same loft. So I expected it to be easier to hit, more accurate but a loss of distance.

For me, it is absolutely easier to hit. It is absolutely more accurate. And it is as long or longer than my 5W. I changed the hosel setting, dropped it down to 19* and it is as long as a Callaway Epic Flash 5W, but way more versatile. Very easy to throttle down and hit a nice 190-200 yard fairway finder swing on a tight par 4 or long par 3. Surprisingly, it also has another gear when you go after it. I've hit it as far as 225, and with that shaft and club head combo, I have not lost it left, not once. It seems to be built for a stock straight to slight fade shot. I've hit a few draws on the range but you have to set up for and make a serious effort to turn it over. This club launches high and seems to be low spin because it flattens out rather than climbing really high like some fairway/hybrids can do.

I just ordered a 17* that I can turn down to play at 16* as a replacement to my 3W. The shorter shaft is absolutely easier to hit off the deck and I haven't seen a distance loss. I've made several attempts at reaching some par 5's in two and so far whether I hit the green, am close or not, this club has made it so much easier to make solid contact that I'm no longer laying up when I shouldn't.

Guys, I thought this club was a gimmick until I hit one at a PGA TourSuperstore. It surprised me so I decided to give it a try. It's not a gimmick. Who knows if this catches on but if you're a player who struggles with sweeping a wood off the fairway into a par 5, this might be a club worth trying. It sure has me excited about the rest of this season.
