Getting back in to walking 18......my shoes arent cutting it.

Recommended Posts

Man you really find out how comfortable your shoes are (or arent) when you quit riding 18.....

Anyone find that they need to rething their footware when you started walking more?

Generally, spikeless is going to be slightly more comfortable because it doesn't need the rigid spine to house spikes. But to @cristphoto point, you need to shell out for quality shoes, don't settle on budget/close-out $40 shoes if your intent is to walk. $140+ shoes are expensive for a reason.

I just back into golf after an extended hiatus. I used to ride almost exclusively and now prefer walking as I feel like I get a better understanding of the course and also find it more relaxing. I found my Allen Edmonds to be exceedingly uncomfortable for walking and switched to Footjoy TourX's. They fit my foot very well and I think this is likely the most important equipment change I've made in the past decade. I went with soft-spikes because I also play in wet/rainy conditions and valued the confidence the extra stability full spikes give me.

Id figure out if you want spikeless or spiked shoes first and then try on everything to see what fits your feet best.

i walk every sat/sun morning ... as gorilla stated, you need to shell out money ... i have two pairs of adidas all leather spike shoes ... $200 a pair ... they are workhorses ... must be able to handle the dew/wet weather ... no mesh or spray on crap ... and you have to take care of them ...

you're going to want to find 'the most comfortable', but a good bit of that is just conditioning your feet, imo ... i actually rub down my feet after walking, esp now in the summer ... epsom salt lotion, bit of a massage from a hand held device, etc ...

If your shoes are not comfortable, they may not the right size for your feet. When I started walking again, a few years ago, I found out I needed a bit more width in the toe box.

fwiw, you can find good quality golf shoes, relatively, inexpensively. There isn't anything wrong with close out golf shoes, as, long as they fit.

I mostly wear adidas tour 360, which are very comfortable but I'm finding dont have quite the arch support after 3+ hours of walking.

I've heard a lot of great things about Skechers....

I walk two nine hole league’s twice a week usually carrying a 9 to 10 club bag. I found spikes to be uncomfortable so my wife got me a pair of New Balance 623 walking shoes. I put a pair of Powerstep insoles in them and they have proven to be a very stable and comfortable choice. The only drawback is they are not waterproof.

I have always been a FJ fanboy...still wearing Classics, Icons and looking at the TourX. I have some Eccos that are good but I prefer a spiked shoe over the nubbies. No problems walking 18 in any of them.

I buy golf shoes like ski boots and ice skates. That is, I wear them for as long as I can in the store before purchase. Walk around, go hit demo clubs, harass the sales person and just generally keep moving and kill time until I'm sure the shoe is right. I have been seen in the hitting bay wearing two different shoes. I have found Puma to be the most comfortable shoe for my foot but Ill break them down in a season if walking allot.

With Covid our course was without carts in the spring and early summer my group started walking, and I found out quickly I needed different shoes. My favorites for walking

Skechers - say what you will, my feet aren't tired after the round

Puma - I bought a pair on a whim because of a coupon and the spikeless and spiked are both comfortable for walking 18

I am not a small guy, 6'1" and 235lbs and those have worked the best. My runner up to those are adidas boost.

The same as what is said above, they have to fit correctly or no shoe will feel good,

I've discovered New Balance trail shoes as well. I had been walking in golf shoes and had some success with some make/models. The key is finding shoes that actually fit your feet. It's harder than it sounds as different brands / models are built on different foot shapes. Might not matter when riding in a cart but makes all the difference when walking 6 miles.

I had bought the NB trail shoes for walking in the neighborhood. They were a completely different fit than my golf shoes with a wide toe box and snug heel. I was shocked that they were so comfortable for walking. I tried them on the golf course and they worked great. Nubs on the bottom provide enough traction and they are much lighter than golf shoes.

Skechers spikeless.

If you do back to back or walk 18 multiple days in a row get at least two pair. I try to get two different models that fit, but fit differently, as well. I don't know how true it is but I have heard it is best not to wear the same pair of shoes, any shoes, over and over, day after day.

Same boat for me. I have a ton of classics and icons. That being said I just ordered 2 pAirs of true linkswear shoes so I should have them late next week. A first for me. They always looked strange to me compared to the more traditional footjoys . Haven’t tried them on so online size ordering was a Guess so I hope they fit. The wide toe box sounds like they will be comfy and I need that with bunions. I bought a pair of the knit as the summers here in SoCal are hot and dry. I’m interested in the OG feel also. Not sure how the zero drop feel. Would be new to me. Would be interested to hear from other true linkswear users especially those who bought thr latest and greatest. If they work out I’ll be offloading my classics. I need more comfort and I mainly walk & Carry.

I discovered the Puma Grip Fusion golf shoes, fit my foot perfectly. Have 2 pairs that I rotate and eyeing a 3rd pair when pay day comes around. I walk 36 at least twice a week with a push cart.

Something else to keep in mind are your socks. I use running socks that provide some extra cushioning. If you go looking for shoes be sure to bring the socks you will wear on the course!!

To me, this years CodeChaos is the most comfortable walking shoe i have tried to date. I love TrueLinkswear Owned several pair. None of the latest models. The Adidas Tour 360 boost is the most comfortable spiked "traditional" shoe I have worn. I can walk in those, but prefer the CodeChaos to walk. The 360 i wear when I ride or when it rains.

Codechaos are soft, and supportive. It's crazy how comfy they are. I'm not the biggest fan on how they look, but man oh man they feel great.

I just walked 5 rounds in 7 days, three of them in the rain and two with quite significant elevation changes. In a pair of Footjoy Contour Fit shoes that are 2 seasons old.

Feet feel fine, no damage. Buy good shoes, your feet will thank you.

I prefer very light shoes. True Knit is the lightest I have found and very comfortable. Also have Adidas Boost which are almost as light and good for walking.

I got some Ecco Biom Hybrids, and had a bad slip, which caused an injured back, and a couple weeks off. Also, even with treatment, they water stain, and look like garbage. I had FootJoy Versalux prior to the Eccos, and never had those problems. They are very comfortable, but that sole pattern vs a nubby sole pattern isn’t very good on a dewey course early in the morning.

I have a different two things and a bonus:

Toughen up your feat.

Buy shoes the fit properly.

Never wear the same shoes within 48 hours (shoes need to dry out and they will last longer - this goes for leather dress shoes too)

I walk about 130 rounds per year and have very little problem ever with shoes. My key is not buying the most expensive shoes, but I found a brand that fits me very well (Adidas) and with that brand I seem to able to buy their cheaper and more expensive shoes with out issue. Out side of full leather shoes with I wear in the winter I do find I wear out the lighter shoes after a season or two (and I rotate 3 or 4 pairs of shoes).
