What were his STATS like when he was winning on a torrid pace?

To me he has always seemed like a streaky player with a funky swing … but give him a week where his funky action repeats and he rolls the rock like YJS then he can (and did) win

Man he could've won that Masters when he was a zillion under and sniped a very short drive off of 18. It's like he goes brain dead on four swings a round (I can sympathize)

I remember someone posting here when Spieth was on his crazy major run that they thought he might go the way of David Duval. Spieth hasn't gotten THAT bad yet, but he is trending downwards.

Some are missing the point...........it's irrelevant as to how much he has made and he's just 26, it's the amount of frustration he's having attempting to fix something, that in my opinion was not broken in the first place. Would I like to see him back to winning, of course I would, it would be great for the game, but as someone mentioned it very much looks like a David Duval reincarnation and we all know how that turned out.........

Complete knob opinion of a golf fan, but even during his heyday I always just felt he was like the ultimate Danny Woodhead (NFL) kind of dude. Got the most out of his game, while having no real outstanding physical traits or capabilities. When it all clicked, it was fire and he stacked up W's but when the baseline norm settled in hes pretty much your average pro golfer across the board.

Since the 2017 Northern Trust Open playoff hole, Jordan has not won. He has finished 2nd, once (the very next week) and 3rd only once.

JS hits a 315 yard drive in the fairway, 182 in.

DJ carries the water, 341 yards, 94 in.

Jordan Spieth went chasing distance after that. He was never great with a driver, but was solid with his irons and short game.

You may be joking about your last line but I really do think that shot demoralized Jordan and screwed him up mentally. The reason I say that is because an Instagram golf account posted the video of the tee shot the next day with the caption "I can't quit thinking about DJ's tee shot". Jordan responded "I can". Obviously seems like Jordan was probably being a good sport but I really think that playoff hole demoralized him. He knew he couldn't do that and he probably started to think "what more can I do?".

 

One thing Jordan deserves a ton of credit for is winning the 2017 Open Championship after the 2016 Masters collapse. The tee shot on 12 sucked but that happens on that hole. The second ball he hit in the water was the nightmare. It was literally one of the worst shots I've ever seen a pro hit. It wasn't like he almost carried the water on the drop shot. He BARELY made it to the water. He hit it so fat he almost came up short. To be honest, I was shocked that kind of shot hasn't happened to him more often. The way he works his arms in the golf swing should produce that monstrosity more than it has.

My last line was intended to impart humor, but it is well known that humor is often based in reality.

I’m a fan of JS and I believe he’ll find his way back. He has to realize that 290-310 is good off the box, especially if it’s well in play. With his irons and wedges, he is very solid and his short game can be impeccable. He has the skill and talent to win on the tour again and contend most weeks.

I agree that it was demoralizing. He needs to alter his perspective and recognize that he didn’t lose that playoff hole. DJ won it with a special shot. Without the helping wind that afternoon, it would have been too low a percentage play even for DJ and he likely would have played to the fairway also.

Ironically, Jordan is not really a short knocker. Chasing distance has his whole game inconsistent.

thought not a fan of speith, I believe in my opinion he has lost his game, his drop in form going back to his Masters melt-down a few years ago imo.

I think Nick Faldo said it best when he would've been scarred for life and Speith hasn't really recovered from that. Yes he won the Open but not done anything after that. I think like others have said in this thread he went looking for distance and failed in his quest. He will most likely find his game and but its going to be more difficult now with Byrson smashing the ball a country mile and then some.

time will tell if the old Jordan will return but I guess we'll wait and see.

I don't think I have any insights besides what everyone has mentioned. I wish he'll be back. It seems everyone thinks it is more mental than physical.

What about Kaymer as a comparison for Spieth? Spieth definitely had a higher peak but both were multiple major winners and #1 ranked players. Kaymer is still only mid 30s and has been in and out of the top 100. I hope I'm wrong but that feels where this thing is heading.

How much longer does Geller last on the bag? Obviously lousy play is not his fault, but caddies get cut for a "change". Casual observation on TV makes it seem they are not as chummy as they once were.

I'm sure his coach is a great guy, and very good, but what ever they are working on, either is not working, or not getting through. Jordan looks like he doesn't have a clue. When pro teams go from good to struggling, they fire the coach. Jordan might need a different voice. A new coach might tell him to work on the same things as Cameron Mc Cormick, but might tell him in a different way, or tell him something that completely different. At this rate, he could lose his status when his exemptions run out.

Just to reiterate what Tom Watson said, his awkward swing starts with an awkward grip. Watson suggested that he fix his grip first.
