Honma Equipment

Hey guys, I dont see much love for Honma products on here (talking mostly about the Tour World Series), I myself have Honma TW737V Irons and TW747 Driver. They both feel amazing but not so consistent on the driver. Tell me what you guys have in mind about Honma TW products!

I think they are one of the under appreciated companies out there. You can see their strategy and club development evolving to get more attention and hit that part of the middle market they have been missing. I hope it pays off for them and for us as golfers.

I have the 747v irons and TW-W wedges. They’re as good as anything out there really. But they lack custom options and store availability. If they could get a fitting cart in a few more places they would give Mizuno and Srixon some competition.

I’m really enjoying my TW737Vn irons. I scored a 5-10 set about 36 holes ago.

I’m a long time Mizuno guy, I won’t say I’ll never go back to the Mizunos. But my 737’s are as good as any Zunos I’ve played.

personally I like the fact that they aren’t as common.

I have no experience with their drivers, still hitting my old MP600. Being the gear whore that I am, I’ll grab one of their drivers for the right price.

I have the 445 737 driver and love it. The face is hot and I dont need to do a lot to crank it out there. I was patient finding the right shaft for me which ended up being their low trajectory stiffest stiff shaft. I just picked up a TW-W 56 degree wedge and it feels as nice as any other popular wedge. The metal feels buttery like my other forged irons. I love dumpster diving on ebay and there are a lot of deals on Honma gear. I am confident that a company that's known for hand making gear and craftsmanship will not produce crappy equipment. I enjoy the looks I get when I whip out my Honma driver versus everyone elses taylormades.

They actually do offer a customization, only thing is, its like $500 for the “fitting experience” lol.

Yea the feels off the face for the irons are really soft and buttery. I have the TW747 455 9.5 driver and it definitely does feel like a Honma Driver for sure. Its soft and springy, but maybe its my swing but its not as consistent for me as my Mizuno MP650

I had 737 455 driver but recently upgraded to 747 460 driver. it is night and day difference; 747 is much more forgiving and as long as 737 455. Here is something I found. When I whack it, it sprays. But when I go easy, it delivers so long and straight.

Honma makes great equipment. It's just a preference of whether they're for you or not. But the quality of their clubs is not in question.

I have a set of TW W4 wedges arriving tomorrow and looking forward to putting them in play over the weekend.

Anyone hit the 747vx irons?

The 747 460 model is a terrific driver. Actually the 455 version was almost as good. 18 months ago It was a finalist with my Epic Flash Sub Zero. I had very similar numbers with both of them but the EFSZ was just a little bit more consistent AND available for $120 less.

Not now though. Now eBay has brand new TW-747s for under $150 ($650 brand new 18 months ago). I just might pick up one to fool around with on the course.

Ooooo that makes sense. Ima give it a try again but with easier swing. You think its because the Vizard shafts are more flexible than other shafts in the market?

Just got fit into the new TR20 irons at club champion. I went with TR20V in 6-10 and TR20P in 4&5 irons. The set flows together really nicely. Coming from a GI set that fit me very poorly, the new clubs have helped my game a ton. Index has come down from a 9.5 at the beginning of the month to 4.6 right now. Driving the ball better now too, but the irons have helped a ton.

Looks like I am the only one that has tried the XP-1, which I would classify as GI irons.

I did not get fit for these, but based on 3 other fittings that I have had, I ordered a custom set through Carls Golfland. Vizard regular shaft, 1/2 inch short and 2 degrees flat, Lampkin grips.

Previously, I was playing the Callaway CF19's and really like them but just felt that I needed a little more forgiveness. These fit the bill perfectly.

Distance and feel is great. Spin is better than CF19's across the board.

The only club I did not put in the bag was the 11 club. Just not as good as my Callaway MD5 Jaws 48*.

I bought their TW 727M irons from Japan about 5 yrs ago. Tried to consign sell them, no luck - so I recalled those beauts.

Perhaps due to a R flex shaft (Modus 125) or the most awesome Gripmaster Wrap leathers on them (kinda sticky).

Nonetheless, these are even better forgings of latter offerings mentioned in this thread. They were done in Sakata - they really are a precursor to the Rose Protos.

I'm glad to have them back for occasional use (no range time due to steel shafts). I was comparing their blade lengths to my TM P760, and they are actually longer! Their topline is thin - like my T100 set. Very excellent feel, will now keep these ones.

Thats mostly the Beres line. With Star levels starting from 1-5.

No worries man, the Beres Line is more for social play and social status thing. Thats when you see people with all gold drivers and fairway woods and shit. They are ranked from 1 Star all the way up to 5 Star. Even on the shafts you will see it. On the shafts, they infuse real gold also. For shafts they also use the ranking system for the shaft makers in Sakata. Depending on how many years you made shafts for, your “made product” will be ranked with the stars.

So 5-Star will be made by (i think, not 100% sure) shaft makers who have been making shafts for 15-20years and so on.

They feel as good as they look....If I am smart, a reshaft into Recoils 125 would keep the whole set pretty close to this current with their Modus 125 - and save some wear and tear. I will actually put them into play next week. Tempting to range them first...maybe two Advils and go for it?!

 

ps...I have noticed how full solid forged MB iron faces hold up much better than the higher tech. thin forged faces like a TM P790 .
