Shark will try and cash in on anything. How much money is enough?

 

I don't think anyone *should* be going to a golf course to get more screen time. We don't need to fix golf, we need to fix people. Put the phone down and enjoy being in the moment. Golf is plenty stimulating without having Greg Norman as my virtual caddie. I already know how to choke coming down the stretch.

I’d imagine Greg sees an untapped market and if you give the kids a cool toy to play golf with they will end up falling in love with the game in and of itself. I just don’t think the kids will care about the Shark Experience at all to even play more golf because of it.

I think he's narcissistic and sees an opportunity to put his face all over something else, a way to stay relevant. I think he's wrong.

 

A few overpriced resort courses will try it, but most places aren't investing in this I don't think.

I didn't find this announcement to be too earth shattering. From what he was saying several months ago, it was supposed to be a major game changer. Enhanced touchscreens for golf cart GPS systems does not seem to fit into that category for me. It seems like you could do a lot of what this offers already if you have good cell service. I found it to be equivalent of like upgrading the hardware and software on a device you already use.

 

I agree with the posts that say it's nothing I am interested in, I like to shut off all of this stuff when I play golf.

 

Additionally, millennials are supposedly thrifty, so I don't see them wanting to pay more this stuff (sounds like that might be required) if they can get mostly the same thing on their cell service.

But is there anyone here under the age of 30 that hates this idea? Norman was aiming this at younger golfers.

I just asked one of the guys that works for me. He played college golf at Colorado and is in his late 20s. His exact quote is that it is "for morons that can't concentrate more than 15 seconds at a time." So, yeah, at least 1. I hate it. I mean, I honestly would consider skipping a course that has it because I think so little of it and compared his reaction I'd be considered a fan.

Serious question- what is Norman's reputation with golfers 30 and younger? They were under 10 when he had his last great collapse. Does he wield any influence in that age group? Or would he be floored to know that there are entire segments of the population that don’t care about him?

I played earlier this week with a friend at his club as I'm thinking of joining. We used a cart that had GPS. About the 4th hole I look up and see some speakers installed near the roof of the cart and I remembered the hoopla surrounding "The Shark Experience" introduction. I looked at the dashboard and saw the Shark logo. Yep, I was in a "Shark Experience" cart.

 

The funniest part is that my buddy didn't know anything about it. All he, or anyone else, uses it for is the GPS--which is installed in many non-Shark Experience carts. To top it off the guy playing with us, in his own Shark Experience cart, was playing music. ON HIS OWN PORTABLE SPEAKERS!!!! LOL

 

The Shark Experience is a complete joke. But knowing Greg Norman he probably convinced a bunch of private clubs to buy his crap "experience."
