Hole In One... maybe?

I am not sure about this but I’ll give you the run down real quick... 177 par 3 at Tour 18. Hit a terrible iron shot that sliced into the water. Re-tee... hit the ball and saw that it was a good shot, being pissed about the shot before, I began to walk away when the ball was mid flight without even keeping an eye on the ball. As I’m driving to the green, I’m thinking to myself maybe the ball rolled to the back of the green and was sitting in the rough. Wrong! Ball was in the cup! Now I just want to know if it was a hole in one or just an extremely phenomenal par save!?!?

If you had the mulligan, hole in one. If you used it, it's a par.

If you are playing golf, you scored a THREE on the hole. That’s a very nice par save. If you’re playing something else, call it whatever you’d like.

Here’s one for you. I am playing alone after dinner, trying to get some “on course” practice. The back-9 is wide open. Our fourteenth hole is a short 152-yard par 3 to a blind pin (slightly elevated green and heavily bunkered). I hit a 7-iron right at the stick. When I get to the green, no golf ball. I figured it might be long until I notice a pitch mark by the cup. “It’s in the hole!”

After the round, I tell our pro my good fortune. He says, “How many holes-in-one did you have before today?” I tell him that I’ve had one. He says, “You still do.”

No witness means no credit. I know that I’ve made two, but “officially” my total is one. Our club has a huge wall mounting which is a hole-in-one tote board listing each player’s name and year. I’m only up there, once. 🙁

A buddy of mine was playing in a match play event. He hit his tee shot on a par 3 to about 10 feet. His opponent said my friend teed off in front of the markers (You probably can see where this is going) and told him to replay the shot. Yep, he holes it. So, how does that fall in the "how-many-holes-in-one-have-you-had" category?

I believe that’s an ACE. I am confident that the penalty for teeing in front of the markers in match play, is that your opponent may ask you to re-tee. There is no stroke penalty. Therefore, the first shot never happened and your buddy scored a ONE on that hole. Good for him!

A friend of mine once pull-hooked a shot OB into a house.  Guy was on the deck.  My buddy quickly re-tees and knocks it in the hole.
He starts going crazy yelling about his hole-in-one and the guy on the patio comes running off his patio also screaming hole in one. They’re jumping around and high-fiving each other beside the green. Then the guy pulls the other ball out of his pocket and says here buddy here is your practice shot.  High fives him again and says “amazing hole in one!”

then my buddy starts calling everyone on his contact list telling them about his amazing hole in one!

I was just sitting in the cart dumbfounded the whole time.  Hell of a par but seriously?? Lol!

I had a shot like this years ago. Blocked my 1st ball out of bounds. In a rage I grabbed the 1st ball I could get my hands on in my bag and let rip with my 5 iron. My buddy who has walked ahead tells "Great shot, it's in the hole!"

I jumped around in joy thrilled I had holed it and saved par but at the end of the day it was only a par. Still a great story though. I've fortunately had two legitimate hole in ones since so now if I'm ever asked if I've had a hole in one I answer "I've had two and a half." 😎

And I'd tell that pro to pound sand. Unless he can point out where in the rule book that says a stroke is not counted unless there is a witness, then it counts. Cant make him put you on the board, but to tell you that it doesn't count is just stupid.
