What ball do you game?

Such an underrated ball IMO. I get made fun of at my club all the time for using it since every seems to play a PRO V lol.

I have only played four times this year. Last season I probably only played a bit over thirty rounds. In the late fall or spring I usually walk around a couple of local courses and find quite a bit more than eight or ten dozen "lost" golf balls. Almost all are in good to excellent condition. I have done this for five or so seasons. I have given over thirty dozen to a golf club up near a lake we go to in the summer. They have a Junior Golf program with quite a few players.

I keep some top of the line balls for my friends that prefer to play Pro-V1 or Bridgestone balls. The rest I just play them myself. I haven't lost too many as the box is getting fuller every season! There are a couple of courses that eat my lunch! I seem to always lose one or sometimes two at those courses! The rest of the courses are a bit more forgiving or maybe just look better to my eyes.

I'm in my seventies and even as I lose distance and spray the ball in attempt to "hit it farther" I'll probably never lose the amounts I find when I walk around the two local courses.

Given your age I'm sure there's nothing to really worry about but as an FYI there are jurisdictions where you can be arrested for trespass and/or theft.

The golf balls you're finding generally belong to the golf course. And you really shouldn't be on the golf course without a paid greens fee.

Now I get that arrest/trespass is extremely rarely enforced but,,,,,,,,

If one is (mostly) serious about the game, unless one goes through a sleeve or more of golf balls every round I just can't wrap my head around this concept.

ProV, and I am NOT saying that everyone should play it, is $4. Most of the others are maybe half that.

With all the money guys spend on greens fees and equipment, not to mention shoes, clothes, hats, etc., you're really going to accept less than the best ball for your game for $2 per round ? The ONLY item of equipment you use for every single shot ?

To be clear, if the less expensive ball is best FOR YOU, by all means play it. But when I hear "for the $$$" I have to just smh.

Let me rephrase that. The MTB-X is every bit as good as the ProV1X. At any cost.

And when I hear that because a ball cost the most, it somehow must perform noticeably better, I chuckle.

Love to see a blind test of a Snell Black, ProV1, Kirkland, Vice..I'm guessing that most single digit handicap golfers wouldn't see a change in their scores over a few rounds with each ball.

Vice Pro and Srixon Z star (When on sale). Also really like the Maxfli Tour . As a 13 I lose too many balls per round to justify anything more expensive

I test most models every year and i have never liked a bridgestone ball in my life....until 2020. Playing the tour B X now and its honestly the best ball ive ever played. The feel is finally good. In past models they always felt like a hard, heavy ball...not anymore...it feels quite a bit softer. Its long, just wants to go straight and has great spin. Whatever sauce they put in the 2020 lineup is working. The XS is also crazy crazy good. That will probably be the ball i play in fall and early spring when the temps are cooler.

Courses may not want you walking around without a paid greens fee but not a one would care if someone is picking up lost balls and I highly doubt any course would consider a lost ball as their property.

Titleist do appear to do really good marketing. I play with found balls and I somehow tend to find my distances anyway. Pro V1s I find don´t improve my game or feel significantly better then cheap "soft" balls. But yes overall it´s not much but if you loose 5 pro V1s a round which is not unheard of it´s a significant investment.

Lessons wont hit the ball for me. But its teeshots, water hazards, Woods on second shot when trying to be brave. I just love danger.

My ball striking is to good for my own best so water hazards is rare ball goes over but not always where I aim and if you go long dont need to be all that much off so lost in rough on most occasions.

I've been playing Callaway Superhot lately but I find they dont spin enough off my driver and I'm losing distance. So I switched back to my Titleist Trusofts until I run out then I will have to try something else, any suggestions?

I bought some pro v1:s. Success only lost two mainly because not hitting driver. I must sayed I holes two monster putts. Putting is where I feel difference. Hardly nothing to speak of for other shots.

Shot 79 with maxfli Softfli and 3 over on 9 last Monday with them, going with those regularly.

 

Have some Wilson Duo Optix, q star tour and maxfli tour that I have to exhaust tho before I go exclusively softfli

Maybe I'm late to learn this, but I just found out that TM has discontinued the Project (a) ball. Inexpensive, long, spinny, with good feel. Too bad.

I played the E12 for a while--straight as a bullet and long drives, low spin to greens though. Chrome Soft I like, but it gets beat up fast. I like the Z-Star off the putter, but not off the driver.

IOW, I have no idea right now what ball to commit to. I have a sleeve of TP5 balls. I'm playing Friday, so I need to decide. I have a set of MP-54s coming on Thursday the iE1 irons didn't work out), so I'll probably decide with the new sticks.

Any of you have different balls for cast and forged irons?
