Moving out of NY November 1 - need a club in Florida to join!

Hey there

With nightlife/hospitality work not coming back this year, I'm going to re-locate down south from Nov 1 until either next spring or until a vaccine hits for me to go back to work.

My question:

What's a club (and where) that :

has a really good range/practice facilitydecent course that's not INSANELY crowded in the afternoonsCosts $5000 or lessThanks!

FL is a big state. Any idea what city you are looking at relocating to?

You're going to want to get a seasonal membership which many clubs offer. But in order to avoid the big crowds, you'll either need to be at a private club or out in the middle of almost nowhere.

 

Orange Tree in Orlando may be a good fit. Not sure if they have a seasonal membership or not. I play $315/month for the regular membership, but there's a $3K initiation, food and beverage as well. I would assume a seasonal membership would be less than that. Good course, great condition, decent practice facility, pace of play is insanely quick (we have more of a too fast of pace of play problem). It's right across the street from Universal Studios and about 1 mile from Bay Hill.

 

Suntree in Melbourne offers 36 holes. The membership costs more than Orange Tree and it's much quieter over on the Space Coast. Not sure what their seasonal deals are, but I think it could swing under $5K. Practice facility is okay.

 

Juliette Falls isn't private, but it's in a rural area. Great course and probably not too busy in the afternoons there. Good practice facility as well.

 

Also in Orlando there's Tuscawilla and West Orange.

 

Other than that, you'd have to look down by the Palm Beach area. Bear Lakes usually has a pretty good deal and it's 36 holes, but it gets quite busy there.

I concur with @RichieHunt about seasonal memberships.
The challenge you will face is that November is the start of winter season. Most golf courses in FL raise their prices to account for all of the northerners (who make more $ due to higher cost of living up there) coming down for the winter.
Then again, your concept of "relatively inexpensive" might be different than ours down here, given that you live in NY.
The Tampa/St.Pete region has a number of private courses. Most are charging an initiation fee + 300-500 per month depending on your age. And most semi-private courses will be busy with all the winterbirds.
Feathersound, Belleaire, Tampa Palms and Hunters Green are the 4 I can think of here, off the top of my head, that might meet your needs.

I don’t know their numbers but Sara Bay CC in Sarasota might be worth a look.

Yes, I played Sara Bay CC for the FSGA Mid-Am.  Really good golf course.  It doesn't have a real driving range though.  You can only hit it about 150 yards on their range.  There's a local driving range about 5 minutes away though.
