Just shot 36 / 43

What a tough game. Had a weird front nine where I made nine pars. I have never done that.

Then I get to the back and go Double Bogie, Bogie, Bogie, Par Bogie, Birdie, Bogie, Bogie, Bogie.

I didn't really play any worse on the back except for a bad drive on 10. The rest we all decent shots that all seem to end up in bad locations and short sided every time. The score just kept adding up. Funny how it goes.

36-43 is only a 7 shot swing - that's rookie stuff. When you get to my level of incompetence you'll occasionally have a 10+ swing. One time I was +9 on one hole and -4 on the other 17. Drops mic.

Around here, I call that "Wednesday" .... today for me was 41-36 .... Double on the first hole, and a stupid bogey from the middle of the fairway on an easy par 5 doomed the front. Back nine was just cruising for pars .... one birdie, one bogey.

My focus for the upcoming weeks is to eliminate the poor decisions and "really bad" swings.

@kozubs - 79 = decent score, but I wonder about your assessment. NO way "Double Bogie, Bogie, Bogie, Par Bogie, Birdie, Bogie, Bogie, Bogie" is NOT lousy play if it were my scores. Where ever your ball ended up, it was either in a lousy spot where you didn't have the shot or lousy execution that lead to further lousy execution and "bogie" train. We must be real about our play. Maybe all the pars on the front took a toll on you. I've seen it and experienced it before. We get a bit cocky thinking we found something that makes a difference only to butt up against reality. Maybe next time we use bogey. That edit should make some people happy.
For months now no small bucket before teeing off. That's when I have to hunt for my swing and realize some bogies in the process. Good luck.

Golf is all about luck and every shot is a lottery and depending on your level any shot can come out at any time. Sometimes your good luck comes in streaks and sometimes it is scattered throughout the round. Sometimes good luck lasts for 18 holes and sometimes it is the opposite. I would guess that 79 for a 5 handicap is not too far off of you average score and if the luck had been mixed up more it would have been a fairly uneventful round not worth mentioning...

I shot 41-55 last week. Im a higher handicap golfer who typically shoots 46-49 per 9 holes. I had a hole out eagle from 98 yards on number 8. Doubled the 9th when par would have been a 39 and a PB. Ended up with the 41. Made the turn, started getting tired, couldnt put the clubface on the ball and limped in with the 55 on the inward 9.

#1 - It's "bogey"

#2 - Golf is a game in which one's skill is measured by the amount he/she can play between mistakes. Therefore, getting off the bogey-train is really where the rubber meets the road.

When you're capable of shooting 36, it's amazing just how awful a 90 looks on the scorecard, but when you think about how easy it is to cruise along making bogeys, it's a wonder that us Ams ever break 90. Still, the goal should always be to develop a game that's solid enough to get you off the bogey-train. It's amazing how hard that really is and how little we're actually in control. A few good breaks and we shoot 36. A few bad breaks and we shoot 45.

I have rounds like that where back nine score is higher. I find it’s due to the pace of play slowing down to snail pace because groups start to take breaks at the turn/start to feel really drunk from all the drinking and decide it’s time to talk about their life on the tee box, fairway, green, with the cart girl, a tree, and to random objects.

Oh that's funny. Didn't realize that auto correct was doing that that. Don't know why bogey was being changed though.

Apparently the 43 was the start of something. Played nine yesterday and missed every stinking fairway, only hit 1 green (mostly due to the missed fairways and trees) and shot 43. Off to the range... or head shrink.

Hah. I played in a comp on Saturday and scored 57/44.

I have a bad record in comps anyway (101 isn't a particularly bad result for me in a comp) but it's usually down to penalties. Yesterday I just struggled with my irons for the first half (pushes so bad I was lucky not to lose balls). It comes to something when you choose to use a driver on a hole when you'd never (even in social golf) normally risk anything more than a 6i off the tee. And I striped it down the middle, away from all the trouble for a pretty decent distance.

At least I have the consolation of knowing that I was able to recover my form during the round. Leaving after a 44/57 would have been depressing.

I'm a little disconcerted that I don't know what I 'fixed' but I assume there's a clue in that my driver was suddenly Mr Reliable when it's usually only Mr Probably-Okay. But I played again today and my irons were back to normal so..meh. It's golf.

Had one of those a week or so ago. Playing backwards, I shot 36 (+1) on the back nine then 42 (+6) on the front. That was a Friday, shot 93 on Monday. Easy life.

Geez pros do that everyday. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. I looked at your HC too and really talk about a non-story.

I had 2-3 weeks of the yips on my chipping. hitting consistently 10-12 of 13 fairways and a short hitter so often chipping and once by the green, lucky to get it on within 20 ft..... Seen my HC go from 10.3 to 13.7.

Add to that played two rounds recently & hit 1 GIR over those two rounds.

And now you'll tell us the course you play has a 135 slope????

Just shot 38/43 yesterday. Was 100% hit fairways, and 78% GIR on the front 9. Then it seemed like the wheels came off starting on 12. The swing felt so incredibly smooth and fluid on the front.

I played in one of my clubs big two day stroke play events this past weekend and shot 84/75. A 9 shot swing so it's just golf as some have mentioned on here before. Everyday is different when going to golf course. Also in the OP case each 9 holes is different. Best one can do is stay focused and not get upset over a bad shot or bad hole. Golf can be about momentum as well, sinking a 15 foot putt that saves a par or hitting out of woods and escaping trouble.
