Z Star or TP5?

Well, you can feel that stress mark with your fingernail and it is much harder on that mark than the rest of the ball. So yeah, I probably won’t be playing them. Hope I can return them!

Word word. I don't blame you in the least. I'm kinda anal when it comes to ball durability. That's the main reason I never played original TP5 / X, KSIG original 4 piece (garbage ball), New KSIG 4 piece, and a few others. But, at the same time, i'm not shelling out for the Pro-V1. New TP5 and Bridgestone Tour BX / S are extremely durable and outright perform. That's why I play them (and discounts).

Played Z-Stars for a couple years, but stopped because of the seam issue. Had played Pentas in the past and they scuffed so quickly, so haven’t tried the TP5 series (plus, I am getting old, so like yellow to be able to see/find the ball)

Used Bridgestone last year and really liked the RX.

Just picked up XVs on the 2 for 1 Father’s Day special. Hoped they had fixed the seam issue, but after reading through this thread, I am having some trepidation that it has not been resolved. Time will tell, I guess.

How to play golf.
Hit the ball.
Find the ball
Repeat until the ball is in the hole.
Have fun.

I've been playing the Z Star XV for over a year now. There's not much this ball can't do. The only ball I've tried that would kick it out of the bag is Tiger's BXS. They seem to bite a bit better (10%) off the wedge in short 20-50 yard shots. However, for the price the Z star beats everything else out there. You should check the 2019 Golf Spy ball test data. The Z star is a solid performer. For reference I play off a 5 handicap.https://mygolfspy.com/most-wanted-golf-ball/

How fast are you swinging? Z Star XV should be amongst the highest ball speed.

TM balls scuff too easily with flush iron/wedge shots and the performance isn't really any better for me to justify paying the higher price.

Best performing golf is and has been Bridgestone for the last 10+ years. Nothing beats the Bridgestone in the wind in my testing and it is equal to or better than all the others in everything else for me. YMMV

If I played in the wind more I would play the Bridgestone, but in Atlanta it is rarely windy and I play the Srixon. It does any thing the Pro V1 or TP5 series can do and to me is better in the wind than either of them, but not as good as the Bridgestone in the wind. Add that to the fact that you can always find a deal on the Srixon, not just a couple of times a year with a buy 3 get one free, but ALL YEAR LONG.

Well I finally received my order of ZStars and played them in a round this weekend and I have to say I was very impressed all around and especially around the green 50 yards in. I have played the newest TP5 Pix and felt they did not check up on the green as well on short shots but spun more on the longer iron full shots. The Zstars were very predictable though which I find to be most important in a ball. My balls do have the visible seam but I didn't notice any excessive damage. One ball lasted around 9 holes before getting seriously scuffed.

That said I didn't notice any difference between these and the Kirkland 3 piece balls and for $25 for 2 dozen that is hard to beat.

Yeah, I tried them last year, bought a dozen with a gift card from PGATSS in the summer and they were about 45 bucks. I still stand by the fact that TM rarely has a sale other than buy three get one, and their balls stay priced high. I think the performance of the Srixon is better and the Srixon can be had much cheaper pretty much any time of year than the TM. The only ball I see myself ever swapping for the Srixon at this point would be the Bridgestone. I am sure other ball manufacturers will make improvements, but since I am not playing for a living the difference is not big enough to warrant me paying more for a golf ball in the performance realm (Prov, TP, BX, Z Star) Never been a fan of the Callaway balls.

I don’t think you really can go wrong with any of the tour balls these day. I’ve always been A Pro V guy when Nike got out of the business. Love the feel of the Z , but it lacks distance for me. The XV (prior model) was too hard feeling. I haven’t tried the new ones. The TP5 spins to much and the TP5X flies to high for me, but great distance and enough spin on the greens for me. I found a new Bridgestone BX and it was amazing in the wind, long , a really good around the green. Might be my new gamer.

copy that.....most of the balls outside of the Srixon line are way overpriced in my opinion....i hate paying those high prices but i did not have a great experience with the zstar.....prov1's and TP5's seem to work the best for me.....i did like the chromesoft as well, but that fell by the wayside when i read about the QC issues......

Based on MyGolfSpy’s robot ball test, high compression balls are typically faster for all swing speeds.

both are great, but I'm partial to the Z-star. Might be the most under-rated ball on the market IMO. I feel the Z-star line is very consistent and has a great feel, everything else beyond that doesn't really matter. So long as the ball does what you want it to do and it's performance is predictable, and you enjoy the feel -- play that ball (whatever it might be). As long as the ball isn't doing erratic things in flight you should be good to go.

I played the yellowΒ z-star all last year found some seem issues and the yellow for me is easier to see and the cover hides blemishes better. Previous years played white and would change every 5-6 holes yellow I would get 18 unless I notice a seam.Β

Got someΒ promo sleeves of TP5s I played at the end of the year I noticed the flight offΒ woods was lower and I was getting 5 yards throughout the bag in the cooler temps. I did get a sense theta the TP5 felt heavier on shortΒ

The price of the z-star has always been great and the ball did what I always looked for TP5 is a contender heading into the '21 season especial with there new 2 layer yellow.

For some reason I always wanted to like the Z-Star. Every new generation I'd buyΒ a dozen. After a couple rounds I'd end up giving them away or putting them in my wife's bag.Β  They just seemed a bit shorter compared with other balls.Β  Feel and spin were comparable however.Β Β

same with me,Β  Z star is shorter than every other tour ball for me,Β  plus the seam issues,Β  i just stay away from them now and just play with BX, Tp5x or Pro v1x
