suggestions appreciated ... $500 total budget ... maybe a bit higher ... i'm 20th in line at probably the 'highest end' store in the state ... can only get 1 bottle from table 1, 2 from table 2 ... allowed multiple bottles from table 3, though can't get two of the same product ... strictly for sipping ... not investment ...

Nice...like this!  This would probably be where I would go to have a nice collection.

Pappy Van Winkle 15yr Bourbon 120

Templeton Maple Finish Whiskey 45  (one of my new favorites)

Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Whiskey 180 -------------  Sub Old Fitzgerald 14 yr 130

Henry McKenna 10yr Bottled in Bond 50

Blanton's Bourbon ABC Barrel Select 60

Willet Family Estate Rye 4yr 80

add Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon 50 if going with OF14 above.

Total $535 or $505

this is a trick, don’t know how many bottles of each are available at each table. 20th means the other 19 get to table 1, 2 & 3 before you.

Assuming all the pappy is gone by 20 cause if you have a chance at a bottle take it...

table 1
any of the BT annual release

EHT 18

CYPB

table 2

OF birthday

Mitchers 10

Baker 13

Either EHT

ELT

Stagg jr

Table 3

pass on everything but

OF 150

Weller FP

With only $500 budget.. I’d probably Go straight to table 3, buy 10 bottles of FP, flip them at secondary to quadruple my budget, and go Ham on the next lottery.

I’ve got to pay 2-5x those prizes for almost any of those in CA, if we even get a chance at them.

i have a friend that was in the 20s a few years back and was able to get a 12 yo Pappy's, so maybe 2 of each? ... not sure ... i'm new to this, and i don't know how to flip a bottle of bourbon ... wouldn't necessarily do that with all of them, but one bottle could fund a nice little golf trip somewhere ... my intent is to buy 1-2 and flip, buy 2-3 for me/friends ... hoping there's a sazerac rye and/or blanton's still available ...

kind of regretting i got the van winkle 12 you bourbon instead of the pappy 18 yo rye ...

Did you have a choice between the Lot B 12 year and the 13 year rye?  If so, i prob would've gone with the rye......however, you can't go wrong with the Lot B.  Most people on this thread will never even sniff that bottle in their lifetime.

yep ... it was up there ... don't know how many bottles they had ... had a sazerac 18 yo, as well ... i went in there thinking "rye" on the different tables (see link above), but weakened and starting taking bourbons ... mainly because i like wheated bourbons, but that pappy 18 yo rye ... think i made a mistake ...

Hmmmm.....I'd have jumped all over the Saz18, even though I already own one (scroll up to see).  I suppose you have to be a Bama resident to jump it the ABC lottery down there???  That's the way it works here in VA.  I love the wheaters as well.  Congrats on your great haul.

yeah, they do a lottery in the fall each year ... 100 spots at 8 stores ... my first time ... got 20th spot at the mountain brook (blue blood money community) store, which is one of the two most "upscale" locations in the state ... statistically, that's it for me ... i'll keep trying, tho ...

thanks for the suggestions ... a friend confirmed the OF birthday bottle, and a rep from Buffalo mentioned Baker 13 as we were walking in ... i remembered your post and double lined those two ...

Right on, enjoy them!
And next time you get into one of those lotteries, remember your friend in cali that helped you. Maybe pick up some bottles for him 😂

My latest “haul” is nothing compared to what’s posted above but my wife sent me to the grocery store for a few things & I came home with a bottle of Eagle Rare & Evan Williams bottled in bond. Not terrible for about $50 total.

Nice job. ER getting hard to come by.

The only thing I have more of than golf clubs. Primarily a bourbon drinker, but some of my favorite whiskies are ryes.

Just getting into bourbon. Been a craft beer guy for years and looking to see what bourbons are out there. Just bought a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel and like it a lot. Also had Bulleit last weekend. What are some other good “beginner” bourbons?

Same journey here.

Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (white label) - IMO best bang for your buck on the market

Four Roses Small Batch

Buffalo Trace

Larceny - its wheated so slightly different taste

Makers Mark - also wheated.  I'm not a fan but a ton of people love it

Knob Creek

Wild Turkey 101

Eagle Rare - 10 yr age statement and around $30-35.  Hard to beat.

Thank you. I’ll look around for some of these.

rye based bourbons ... for accessible, elijah craig single barrel or barrel proof is good, & Old Forester has come out with a new lineup, one of which is the Prohibition 1920 style ... very good ... Barrel Bourbon makes a very good one, also

wheat based bourbons ... not as accessible since these are the Wellers & Van Winkles, and they sell out quickly and go for big bucks on secondary market/secondary retail places ... Makers Mark is wheated, and it's fairly solid, and their barrel select cask strength is pretty good ... Larceny Barrel Proof (not their standard 'small batch' offering) is supposed to be very good ... might be hard to find ...

rye whiskey ... Whistlepig is accessible and is pretty good, in addition to High West brands ...

I use the breakingbourbon website as a reference ... they rate it 0-5 barrels ... that 1920 is 4 barrels ...
