Open clubface / stall flip

I hope people can help me out. I’m a 12 handicap that struggles with an open clubface throughout my swing causing me to flip and stall through impact. When it is really bad I get the shank. My drivers are either pushes right or hooks left. Any tips on what I need to work on? I cat see to figure it out.

That is a flip? I thought that is normal rotation through impact

Are you supposed to actually do that on your downswing or just feel that? I have always lost my right wrist bend and have had a slightly cupped left wrist at the top. I just can't imagine on a full swing revving a motorcycle handle. I feel like that would be impossible and make things worse!

Yes you actually do it. if trail wrist is extended then what the lead wrist looks like at the top depends on relation of hands on the grip. You stall flip is due to a couple of items 1) your arms are not in synch with your pivot - they trail 2) open face. Getting the face fixed is important if you want to stop the stall flip and work on getting the arms/pivot synched in transition.

It is one thing that eliite swings do - flex the lead wrist in transition/downswing. Everyone opens the face (to the path) in the backswing and you need to start closing it early in the transition/downswing - DJ gets it in the backswing and keeps it through the downswing and ends up flat at impact, Rahm flexes in backswing and then adds even more in downswing due to his weak grip. But they all do it. Some like Zach have such a strong grip that they even though he flexes at impact his wrist is still extended - though more flexed than at setup.

Every good player does it at some point in the backswing or transition. If you have no right wrist bend and a cuped left wrist at the top.....you have to do it even more.

Monte, can't the same thing be achieved by simply strengthening your grip??

That’s a bandaid, wrist angles are still off and so will impact dynamics.

You can’t zero out one aspect of the swing.

Monte, long time ago we are discussing such things in a German golf forum which unfortunately was closed a couple of years ago. Do you remember? Meanwhile you are still fighting this battle to help the average Joe like us. Respect!

Since when have you discovered this motion as imperative? And do you think the left elbow can support this motion serving as a fulcrum? Thanks

It’s been ongoing. I want to say 5/6 years ago I saw 3D graphs of tour players and all did it at some point and in some fashion.

Then a couple of years ago I got a hack motion wrist sensor and every low and plus handicapper did it in some fashion and the higher the handicap, generally the worse the graph looked.

I don’t think it’s necessary to look at it that way. Most need to think of it as an independent movement to succeed.
