Good Fit?

Looking at new irons and trying not to go too far down the shaft rabbit hole.

Currently playing 716 AP2 with TRUE TEMPER XP 115 FLEX S-300. Got fit into these 5 years ago when I was playing to a 12. Currently at a 5. Got on Trackman and talked to a fitter who said it sounded like my irons were ballooning a bit on me. 4 iron 4,819 spin, 6 iron 6,068 spin, 8 iron with 8,195 spin and PW 9,514 .

They recommended the Nippon Pro Modus Tour 120 S or KBS Tour S.

I've read a good amount Modus sound pretty good. Anything I should be aware of? Thoughts?

That 4-iron spin is a bit high, but there is nothing wrong with those other spin numbers. And even if there were, I would not recommend a shaft change for two reasons. One, there is absolutely no guarantee they would lower spin, and even if they did it would only be by a small amount, which you don't need. And two, the easiest way to bring your spin down would be to strengthen your lofts, but it sounds like this "fitter" just wanted to make a sale. Those numbers are fine for the more "modern/traditional" lofts of the AP2's.

All your spin numbers are good, unless you found a way to have that spin and also have super short carry distances.

Here are the average PGA Tour players spin numbers from Trackman. 4 - 4836 6 - 6231 8 - 7998 PW - 9304

With the 4 iron being 24*, 6 iron 30*, 8 iron 38* and the PW 46* in that set, your numbers are fine dependent upon your carry distances on flat ground with no wind.

LPGA Players average spin

4 iron - 4801 6 iron - 5943 8 iron - 7494 PW - 8403

Based on your spin numbers are your carries for each iron roughly 200, 180, 160, 135 or are they 170, 150, 130, 105? If they are closer to the second carry numbers then your short irons may spin a tad a little high. If it's right in the middle say 185, 165, 145, 120 I would say you still probably pretty good with the numbers you have

Both answers above here is right, but there is a a few parameters missing...

Was this indoor from a mat, where we often see spin values drops and launch goes way up?

Did you see DESCENT angles?

Do you experience ballooning in play?

Did you try off any of the suggestions, and what changes did you see?

AP2 is not known for "low spin", and if its really to much, you would see it on descent angle. but stronger static lofts can fix it if launch and spin is too high.

My distances are 200, 180, 160, 135 on the course. Outside with no wind. Did not see descent angles. Occasionally get some ballooning.

Looking at players distance irons so it seems like it is a bit tough to compare.

I would rather have too much spin, than not enough spin with today’s modern lofted players distance irons.
