Unpopular opinions...

Ive played with rack clubs most my golf life and ive been just fine... i got fit for irons and see about the same results. Overrated? I think one good fitting in your lifetime is good enough. Take that info from fitter and apply it to what u feel. Unless your a tour player i feel most of us can be just fine playing rack clubs but just pick the right flex... just my opinion. Also tiger is trash. Is that unpopular enough? Lol

What a great thread! Now I’m hungry for some cereal. ?‍♂️

Mine would be β€œDrive for show, putt for dough”. For the tour pros maybe there’s some truth to it but no way for the majority of us. Golf is so much easier from the fairway than being in the trees or racking up penalty strokes all day. I’m the king of shooting somewhere around 80 with an OB or 2 mixed in there. Lol

Β

EDIT-Another is leave yourself a full wedge distance (90-100) when laying up rather than say 40-50 yards. BS. The closer I am to the hole the better chance I have to hit the next one close.

I agree one fitting should be good for 90% of us but, unless you are 5'9" - 6'0" with standard (for that height) length arms, you should definitely be fit or at least explore it.

At 6'5" in my bare feet, irons fit for length definitely help me with posture in the shorter irons.

Allow a rule change that you can do anything to distract an opponent that does not interfere with his swing.

"Jim Nantz here with you and we are on the 18th at Augusta National. Dustin Johnson is on the tee and 20 yards in front of the tee box is a pantsless Jon Rahm doing helicopters with his penis and singing Mr. Brightside."

We don't keep a full list just our favorites, my friends usually drink Stella so if a course has that then they'll usually bring that. I'm not much of a drinker on the course since I'm usually driving but I'll have 1 or 2 on the front if it's a hot day.

Taking practice swings only wastes time and energy.

Ribbed grips will disappear again in less than 5 years. Ribbed grips were dead until someone slapped a pretty marketing term around it like "align technology".

Armlock putters are anchored and should be illegal.

Driving distance on the PGA Tour is more a result of bigger fast and stronger athletes competing on tour emulating Tiger's fitness routine than juiced up balls and equipment. Old people just don't like to admit that every generation is bigger, stronger and faster than the last.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the best cereal of all time.

Yes this is true way taller or way shorter definetly would need a fitting to match up club specs to ones extreme heights. Im 5'7 and racks have been fine. Apparently i need a 0.25 in cut off but at that point id rather just play the length im use to. I did go half degree flat. Not so sure that was a good move for me yet? I started hitting alot more draws and hooks which is not my game at all. Could going flatter do that?

Slope on range finders should never be allowed (although I readily admit that I use it... when in Rome)

If you're a double digit handicap you should save the money and never buy a Pro V (or similar). In fact, your scores would go down with something else.

A hole in one on a par 3 course counts as a hole in one. Why wouldn't it? You teed up on a regulation sized hole, and your tee shot shot went in. What else would it count as? I get that it's not as exciting as in a regular round, but it's still a golf hole and you sank it on one shot.

"I need 4 wedges so that I have consistent 10 yard gaps." I've started playing with just a 56 deg wedge after the PW, like when I was a kid, and my short game keeps getting better according to Arccos.

Surely, these won't be popular:PING makes the ugliest clubs, ever (except Blueprints). Am I the only one that thinks this? Very few on this forum actually hit their driver 290-300 yards. I work at a TPC and only see Tour and mini Tour guys consistently doing this, and not many of them.Unless you are a low single digit handicap or better, never play the back tees. Slow play is a menace.Course marshals should get paid more.

THIS! Every single post. I’ll follow it up with the unpopular idea that it is not necessary to suggest lessons everytime someone asks a question. Everyone knows that getting fitted and taking lessons is helpful. Doesn’t mean we can’t talk about clubs without being told just to get fitted and take lessons...
