Fix-em or not?

Just looking for some opinions on an old pair of FJ Classics. The uppers are perfect, the soles are disintegrating. Wondering if I should drop the $200 to get them fixed, or just move on? I don't have a huge connection to the shoes, I bought them used off Ebay a couple years ago for about $70 IIRC. Of course a new $200 pair of shoes would probably be smarter and more comfortable, but realistically, these shoes would outlast almost any $200 shoe I would buy if I had them fixed. Need some opinions to talk me On/Off the ledge.

toss them. The classic tours were poor quality. Tour model Soles crack and fall apart All the time. LaRossa can resole with leather non Footjoy branded soles for $225 but not worth it IMO. Regular classics 2009 or earlier I’d MAYBE think differently if I really liked the uppers. $225 is a lot to sink into a used shoe repair though.

Those are Classics? All of mine have full leather soles and 11 spikes (12 on some of my older models).

Those models with the optiflex sole were a disgrace. Three years old and the soles started to decomposing and falling apart. They charged $300 for those shoes. Plastic junk.

Those low end Footjoy shoes have always been cheap crap. They look lousy after wearing them a few times and aren't very supportive for your feet. Too many cheap synthetic materials used. You get what you pay for.

The old Footjoy classics with the leather soles were the most comfortable shoes ever made. And they lasted a long time with a little care. I still have four pairs that are twenty years old. They made a line with the plastic optiflex and the soles just fell apart after 2.5 years. Now the top of the line is the icon but not as comfortable.

Called “classics Tour”. Made in China after closing USA factory in 2009. Absolute garbage . Night and day to the classics, classics Dry, or classics dry premiere.

@Old Tom Morris the icons are no longer the Footjoy top of the line. Footjoy has returned to all leather with the 1857 line starting at $750 retail! Many pga pros still wear icons including Justin Thomas.

Leather soles? LMAO. You're delusional. Leather soles are much harder and less forgiving than rubber soles.

There is a reason why leather soles are obsolete 1800's technology.

They are archaic and very harsh on your feet, which is why modern people do not wear them anymore.

Just look at what doctors prescribe for people with foot pain like plantar fasciitis.

I applaud your frugality but this is a no-brainer IMHO. Those are well below a price point where a repair should be considered.

My memories of hard leather soled shoes is different than Old Tom's. They had to be broken in, walk around the yard, graduate to mowing the yard, then wear them only in carts, and finally, they were ready to be in rotation. The spikes always rusted in, you could ruin the backing plate while trying to change out spikes. The shoes rewarded you by being hot and heavy.

I had some Classic Dry Premiers, and those had a combo rubber/ leather sole. They were heavy, but so supportive, that my feet never hurt, or were tired after walking 18. I have worn FootJoy for 50 years, but their overall quality has declined since leaving Brockton, Mass.

Yes, even the dryjoy line is not as well made as 20 years ago. Disappointing that it is acceptable to make crappy products. It seems to be that way with all consumer goods.

Someone mentioned that Footjoy is making an all leather pair now. $750 is a little steep for a pair of shoes. I remember paying $275 but they were very well made and comfortable shoes. Looked sharp also.

I got a few pairs of Footjoy Classics from a golf pro almost 35 years agowhen I was a caddie. I was hooked then. Whenever I purchased them, I found them to be comfortable right out of the box. Never had to try them on, just ordered 9.5 D and they were always perfect.

I was the same Old Tom. I only got though 4 pairs in my time before they were discontinued but after my feet got used to the first pair, I never had any issues with them. I must say though that sometimes after 36 holes with them on, I could not wait to get out of them.

This is a hot take, but 80% of the FJ stuff is garbage. And the other 20% is really at the top end of most budgets. Classics and Icons, yes are top notch but they're far from the best for the other stuff.

The Icon Black followed the Classics line. I wear them and they are great. Lots of the same features as the Classics but none of the drawbacks. I paid $129 for my last pair (normal list $300). I keep hearing Footjoy is going to discontinue to Icon Black. If that's the case then there will be lots of similar deals showing up.
