Mizuno Irons for 2020

the flipside to that is we dont know what the new design is yet. maybe mizuno redesigned the club in a way that launches it higher - so that the stronger lofts aren't for added distance but rather to get the right launch characteristics for that particular iron. yes, a lot of the move towards stronger lofts is about selling distance and $$$. but that doesnt mean there aren't also times where its done for practical reasons, especially where new designs mean you need less loft to get similar launch.

The 921T have the same lofts as the 919T. IIRC, the 921T GW is 50°.

As a lefty, excited to hear the rumors that there’s an SEL-type set at the very least. That being said, these do look a bit bigger. I’m hoping that’s the camera angle or something else about the photo. That being said, if the look at address is similar to what they’ve been doing, it’s still a no brainer. Though, if these are bigger and they do an SEL, id hope the tours go to at least a 5-iron. If these are bigger than previous gens, don’t want both a 4 and 5 iron in the forged.

I think you’re gonna find Mizuno has trimmed a millimetre or two off the blade length of the new Tour and Forged.

I only liked the hmp from the last jpx line. Just my opinion. The 19 forged seemed a to big but i guess thats what the jpx line is for in the first place i think? Got mmc 20 if i didnt know any better they are gi irons in a blade like package. Awsome irons.

I still think the back/badging of the 900T is the best version of the JPX tour line.

Those are VERY good looking irons. That may be the first set of irons I have seen that would make my Edel's knees buckle in fear of being replaced.

No it hasn't been discussed at all in this thread....it's a jpx mizuno thread obviously there is info just peruse the thread.

 

On this very page two posts above is the only intel (the only speculation is there will be an SEL set similar to the MP20).

with such a significant change in toe to heel weighting, was the last version a fail? "based on player feedback" is another term that gets everyone all excited...but was the last model NOT based on feedback? i dont see how you can keep moving weight all around the club and say its "improved" especially when you go backwards to a previous design element.....to me, mizuno seems to be struggling with this stuff...but everyone will say "these feel great"....and thats only because Mizuno TELLS you they are the best feeling irons....buttery smooth....

to me Titleist has a better handle on their engineering.....I think these are nice, but I really question why they went back to the future on us.....

You’ve captured my thoughts almost exactly. I know the teaser picture has created a lot of buzz but I suspect many are waiting for more information as well to see if this indeed a step forward. I hope there’s technology beyond the material difference that will indeed make this an improvement over the 919 Forged in all areas of performance - to include forgiveness. I like how Titleist described their design/performance Improvement goals with the T series ( the 3 D’s - distance, descent, and dispersion). Hopefully the JPX 921 forged has improved in all of these areas over the JPX 919 forged.

i am a sucker for marketing too but every driver ive tested over the last 5 years has gone almost the exact same distance as my 910 D3. I really wanted the SIM to work, but spending $500 on a driver that goes 2 yards further? nah.

Mizuno irons are so nice LOOKING...they almost sell themselves and i know their forgings are amazing.....but all these changes by Voshall and company have me really confused as to what their direction is....2 years ago, PGA players were not asking for extreme toe weighting and now they want heel weighting....Boron is great...no we removed Boron because it didnt work.......its like Voshall has been there so long, its hard for him to come up with new innovations and consistent design work to truly improve performance.....i think TM, Titleist and Srixon have passed Mizuno in the tech department.

I think the MP MB's are buttery smooth and the rest of the lines are just living off of their reputation. Some of the other offerings felt harsh to me at times.

It sounds like you are questioning the playability gains from a design perspective more-so the marketing. Just like the drivers you’ve tried over the past 5 years. Tweak here, tweak there, change cosmetics and the net result is next to nothing (in many cases) for us mere mortals but the hands of a Tour player made feel something different. Boron was not loved from the get go when it was put in the irons. Mizuno fixed that by leaving it in their blade style wedges for durability and there seems to be less complaints about feel stemming from the wedges. Now we have GF Forged HD Chromoly that is rumoured to be a softer grade than what was used in the HM line. We’ll see what gains the new material provides.

If you stop trying to innovate, you die off. Buy them. Don’t buy them. The choice is yours my friend. New and shiny clubs are nice but there can also be something said for tried and true clubs too. My rep has my order already so....

Interesting look, but I have to say that if you compare the Tour models... the 919 looks so much more elegant. I rock the 900 Tours myself but now that the new line has been introduced maybe I can find a good deal on a set of new/barely used 919s.

Also, they do remind of me an old set of TM 300s or some Titleist CBs. I think the reality is, when it comes to players' clubs... there's really only so much tech they can introduce/experiment with when the priority for these players looking in this category is usually look and feel.
