I would say the better golfer you are, the more it matters.....to what degree, that in individual....

I always laughed at 15 cappers really trying to dial in their equipment.... worrying about launch profiles of shafts when they have a tremendously inconsistent swing.

I say just find what feels good and work on the swing.

But if you are really good with a consistent swing, I can see nit picking your equipment....

From the number of aftermarket offerings and profiles available, it seems to matter enough for there to be a market for it and a measurable difference to how some people deliver the club.

That doesn't mean it's the same for everyone, some people don't really care what shafts they play.

But at the elite end of the scale and for many better amateurs, there's probably more people who care (to the point that they'll at the very least test different options) about it than not.

Different strokes and all, but the ability to independently change a profile's tip, mid and/or butt section(s) is probably not everything, but probably more than nothing too.

But we already have steel with different profiles, soft tips, soft butts, soft mids. I just dont see why anyone needs more than that. ?‍♂️ Dont get me wrong graphite is great because it is (A) LIGHTWEIGHT, and (B) it is better at dampening vibrations. But thats about it.

Which is all true. Additionally, engineers have so many more options of how to do that better with carbon.

It's a bit like, why are shaft companies interested in outfits like Torayca continuing to develop new grades of carbon fibre? Why don't they just call it a day at T1100g, move on and call it a day?

Because new materials allow them to do more things and do more things differently. Why? Cos it might be better for some people.

I don't think anyone's expecting the world to spin the other way from all this, it's just the nature of the beast really. It's just R&D in motion, it's what happens with most, if not all, products.

And as consumers, we have the choice to either take it, or leave it.

Sure but great golfers want well fit and consistent equipment, and have the consistent swing to benefit from it

Of course but that isnt the point. There certainly are the brysons of the world that break down every data point and equipment choice. And there are pros that couldnt tell you a lick about the shaft he is playing.

Sure but you dont think that even though the Pro doesnt know what they are playing that the tour van didnt take the time to fit them?

Not as in depth as you would think. Alot of them stick with a profile, weight. Get the specs right and go.

A change to graphite takes time especially for a pro's bag. I would say at this point in time graphite shafts are equally as good as steel and better in a few area's. Once the benefits of graphite start to race further ahead of steel you will see younger players move into it and steel will fade away. Same with persimmon woods to steel heads. If a pro can gain 5% in dispersion it's a game changer for them.
