Mini driver shaft help

I’m going to give a mini driver a go, I don’t carry a 3 wood and have a slot for a club so maybe this could be a fairway finder. My question is if you were going to buy a after market shaft for it would you buy a 3 wood shaft or a driver shaft? Also do people typically play these heavier than their driver? I play the diamana b series 60X in my driver

There are a few dedicated fairway shafts, but a driver shaft and a fairway shaft are really the same thing. The only difference is that fairway shafts may be tipped a bit to account for the heavier head weight.

What shaft weight is a good fit will really be a function of the playing length. Heavier shafts tend to work better in the fairways compared to drivers because of the shorter playing length. And the playing length also dictates the head weight needs (to get a reasonable swing weight).

So it really comes down to the question of what playing lengthy do you plan to use for your mini-driver? 43.5" is a very rough boarder between driver lengths and fairway lengths. 43.5" and above you can think of as a driver. Less than that might be better dealt with as you would a fairway.

I agree with everything that @Stuart_G said above. With few exceptions, manufacturers don't make a driver shaft or a fairway wood shaft. They make a shaft at a given weight/stiffness/torque profile. And then set the length and tipping accordingly.
FYI my bag is currently set up the same way you are planning to do. I dropped the 3W in favor of a 2nd driver (12*, turned down to 11.25*) that I am using as a 2W. I play a 60S in my driver, and a 65TS in my "2W". The 65TS is about an inch shorter, but the head (917D2) is a full-size driver head so I didn't have to tip it more. Both have the same torque (3.5) and feel similar to me in terms of load etc. I think the 65TS is 5 grams heavier.
Unlike me, your mini-driver head will likely be smaller and possibly heavier than your driver. So my starting point would probably be a shaft that's heavier and shorter than the shaft in your driver.
But it is very possible that the same 60X you have in your driver (with a shorter length and perhaps tipped more) would work well for your mini.
If you had the ability to throw different shafts in there, I'd test a 60X and 70S, 1" to 2" shorter than your driver length.
That being said, I highly recommend you get fitted for this club rather than doing a random walk through the available options.
Good luck!

This does nothing to help you, but I play an x100 in my TM original one Mini at 43". I never carried a 3 wood but this replaced my driver. Im loving it

Note that most (if not all) mini-driver heads are built to around the same weight as full size driver heads. They are not usually assumed to be used as fairway wood replacements. So if you're going to play them at a shorter length, be prepared to add some additional weight to the head to get the balance (swingweight) correct.

A driver head is between 195-205 ; a minidriver head at least 210gr.

Taylormade has made great mini drivers in the past, but most of them came with terrible cheap shaft options as long as it is not a TP Modell.
To upgrade those heads with a good shaft is always a good idea. the stock shaft length of the mini is similar to a 3 wood shaft, the playing length is a bit longer because of the bigger head. So simply watch out for a 3 wood shaft, the small differences in head weight in relation to a 3wood head, will not make a big influence in the feel of the stiffness that shaft will have. The overall weight of the club is the more important thing.
