New Rogue Black Hybrid

Recommended Posts

I'm liking it. First Aldila hybrid shaft that I'm playing, so I can't compare it to other Aldila hybrid shafts.

I did find it to have a pretty high balance point, as I needed to add a lot of lead tape to the head of 22* hybrid (more than normal).

Feels stable.

Playing 85TS.

How is launch and spin anything you would compare it to?

It's a little higher launch and spin (I think) than the Diamana Thump (90'ish g weight).

hitting it very consistently, so I bought a 95TS for a 25* hybrid.

looking to get another head that's the same as the one that I'm gaming which has a thump 4 iron shaft in it.

22* hybrid had a thump hybrid shaft

Quite the difference in weight. I'm very close to ordering a Rogue black not sure if ill go with 85 TS or 95 TS

are you thinking of putting it in the 19* hybrid?

I am liking the 85TS so much in the 22*, that I thought to get another 85TS for my 19* which I don't always game, but this is golfwrx, need to have options!

Looking at your profile with the OT hybrid in 80s, I'd say to go for the 85TS.

Valtiel, did you ever hit this? I have a new uncut 85TX, not sure what to put it in, or how much to tip it. Guessing it is higher launch/ softer tip than the TG or Silver? TIA!

I've actually had it in my Bridgestone J40 3-iron and i've quite liked it. High balance point so it needed a lot of additional headweight. It's one of those shafts that is very much in the same family as the classic AD-DI hybrid shaft; smooth/mid soft but still stable.

Thanks!
What about tipping? Aldila suggests 1/2" for a 3H, but I'm leaning toward 1". Don't want to chop too much, but hate a weak tip. OTOH, it's low-torque (2.4° and .370), so maybe go 1/2", leave it long, and reassess?
My unicorn driver is the Rogue Silver 125msi 70TX tipped 1/2". Would love to find a "mini-me" for that in the hybrid.
3W is a different animal - want to be able to turn that over. Thinking a slightly torque-ier X (not TX), heavily tipped. I had a Penley G2 X tipped 2" that was in the ballpark.
Any thoughts on either?
Thx again!

I would go for 1” tipping based on what you said. You could even go 1.5”, tip stiff/soft mid shafts are more forgiving when it comes to tipping and I know you like things pretty stout. The Rogue Black is inherently softer than the Silver because of differences in the midsection so heavier tipping on the Black to make something that feels a little closer to the Silver makes sense.

Thanks dude - I took it out between the lightning bolts tonight, tipped 1/2", and first off, you're right! This is a serious shaft! Not a wiggle monster like the Rogue White 70x, this thing felt firm and stable. But I could hit it both ways! Easily! Sometimes on purpose!

Not sure on tipping yet. Definitely was launching high. That's useful, but maybe too much of a good thing. I'm sure it'd be fine with another 1/2 off the tip. Will give it another shot when the sun comes out.

Mostly you got me thinking about the midsection. Is that where the play should be? I.e. torque? Maybe Rogue Black is best as a fairway shaft...

I definitely do NOT want a twisty little neck to open or close the head - too easy to do that by accident (hence pros' heavy tipping).

And you can't really move it from the handle, too large a diameter.

But twisting a little through the middle (or not), maybe that's where the action should be...

Ideally, it'd be: cut-machine driver (check √ Silver 125); mini version of that in the hybrid (check √ RDX Black Smoke); and between them a 3W that'll draw (not too much).

Firm tip + a little give in the handle on all 3, but maybe stouter midsection on DR + HY, and a little softer belly on 3W. Is it all midsection torque? That simple? Thoughts? Thx!

I know we've talked about longitudinal vs. torsional stiffness before so I don't want to open that can of worms again, but as a reminder there is a *negligible* difference in torque between the tip and the handle of a shaft. The Rogue Black 130 70TX has about a 0.7* difference between tip and butt, and the most i've ever seen is on softer featherweight shafts in the 40-50g range and it's 1.5*-2.0*. Tipping therefore has functionally no effect on torque, but a noticeable effect on longitudinal stiffness, which is the primary area the Black (Blue) and Silver (Green) shafts differ:

image.png.7e3dbc5c86f3be4a1e4ba883e9d923b9.png

The Silver/Green profiles have a stiffness bump in the lower mid section that when compared directly to the Black feels more stout/firm. I have enough experience with both to testify to it....the Silver models on slightly thin strikes feel way more harsh than the Black, and both models in the same weight and flex class have basically the same tip and butt torque.
