On Aug 21 2016 4:54PM Swoff57, featuring a Utes avatar, posted something about a golf ball from Costco. He wasn't playing it but was drawn in by Costco Staffers who referenced this Unicorn.

That was approximately 15,000 posts and about 1,400,000 views ago. It's well documented that I'm a Costco Ho and have the card to verify it. After an initial foray, it seemed to be a pro level ball at a Costco price. Drawn in like a Siren to a Sailor, I made a first purchase, a second, a third and thanks to VNutz, more purchases that I'd like to admit. Shockingly, I wasn't the stupid HO to pay 2-5X on Ebay or some other website that Keith Morrison would say, "was it murder?"

As the ball was logically and illogically challenged, I stayed true to the cause, true to Costco and true to the KSig. There was never a moment of question, there was never a moment of wavering. It's a Ksig. Chrome Soft, Titleist AVX, TPX, etc, Sure, you're new and shiny and players make great comments about you but no, it's KSig and me.

Tonight before Mass was confession. As painful as it was, it was time to come clean and admit my transgressions. As the curtain was drawn back, I stammered, "bless me Craig Jelinek for i have sinned. Yes I've bought Apothic Red and 43 pounds of beef ribs, and i grabbed 2 things of TP even though I didn't need it but I cheated and it was good."

For the last two round, the Siren that drew me in was a B12 Soft. Oh yes, it went longer, straighter and with a lower compression, felt so good, but it doesn't mean this new relationship minimizes what we've done together for almost 5 years. You'll always have a special place in my heart and Costco is still where the next ball will possibly come from. But please understand, our relationship has lasted long than quite a few marriages.

As Ross said to Rachel, we're on a break...

Hi All - New here so i think i should be posting my costco questions here. i put this in a post earlier that i will delete if it is not allowed. Hopefully someone can answer this question for me.

" I'm a big fan of the Costco Kirkland Signature Performance+ ball. I have collected quite a few used ones and noticed that these same balls have different finishes. The one on the right look more plastic and dull while the one on the left looks shiny and white.

Does anyone know if these are different year balls or if there is a difference? Does one play different from the other?

Thanks in advance."

When they didn't mention the four piece in their magazine, I assumed we wouldn't see them. I'm hoping for a pleasant surprise, but I'm not holding my breath. If the only issue was bonding the cover, it should have been an easy fix. I'm not sure why they haven't released the ball again. Very disappointing.

You know, on the basis of my experience there never was much of a problem with their new 4-piece. I bought 4 dozen and put them on the shelf, thinking that they were junk based on what I was reading here. This spring I played a few rounds with the ball and never had a bit of a problem. I keep playing them, and the only problem is that the cover isn’t durable - they get chewed up with strong iron play. But I have never put a smile on a single one of them, and I have never had a separation of any kind. I am a very good player and rarely hit a ball in the forehead, and I am old and only have about a 95 mph driver speed on a good day, so maybe that’s the difference.

Now, I have to say that this ball is not as good as the original 4 piece, of which I have several dozen left and will go back to once these are gone. That ball is outstanding. I like it better than the ProV1 that I was playing because the cover is much more durable, the spin is right, and I think it actually goes a bit farther off the driver.

But for good players who aren’t hitting thin shots it seems to me that the “new” 4-piece is entirely acceptable.

Based on everything we've seen online about that ball, the vast majority of them did NOT have the cover separation problem. If you have a stash of them without the bad covers, then they're good balls.

They were pulled from the market because 5 or 10 or 20 percent (who knows the actual number) of them were defective. Costco isn't going to sell a product that's a crap-shoot for whether it falls apart or not.

... I have a bad back and never go to the range standing in one spot swinging over and over again. So for practice, I like to go out late and play several shots off the tee and from the fairway. I will try shots I normally don't hit like exaggerated low/high draws and fades. There are a few holes at my 2 muni's where an intentional draw/fade works well off the tee but there is water and OB in play if the ball stays straight. So I like to try extreme shots to see how far I can push the envelope during practice rounds and hate to lose premium balls but playing a non urethane ball doesn't teach me anything. Costco 3 piece at $25 for 2 dozen are about the cost of a Family bucket at the range and last much longer than 1 practice round. So I don't mind starting a tee shot over the OB/water and attempting a high draw that doesn't draw and losing a Kirkland 3 piece instead of a TP5x.

I finally ordered a box to mess around with them. I'm used to playing lower compression balls so i was amazed at how much faster they come off the driver. was getting the same trajectory and distance off my irons and wedges, but obviously more spin on the green because of the urethane cover. I don't find any urethane balls to be especially durable and these are no exception, but I can't tell how much less durable they are than other urethane balls I've used. I played 18 holes at a full size course and then 36 holes at a pitch and putt mostly with just my LW and the ball is basically destroyed. for the price I don't mind going through one per round though.
