Mizuno Irons for 2020

Those new p770s are looking really good! This could be the first year in a long time I don’t have a set of Mizuno irons in the bag. But the MP20 MMCs have been pretty solid. I won’t be selling them.

Thought the same thing about the Ping comparison. In fact, I think these already look outdated and kind of low end. The 919T had a very modern, sleek appearance.

I have seen the product sheets for all the sets. The new forged iron will have a shorter blade length and thinner top line there will also be less offset. The tour will also feature and narrower sole in the scoring irons (as will the forged) there is also a new wedge coming with this release :) stay tuned its NUTZZZZZZ ;)

There is a second thread on the JPX line. Someone who saw the whole line already didn't list specs just verified that there is a JPX 921 HM, HMP, Forged, Tour and SEL. Also a Tour Gap Wedge. So as far as the make up is concerned on the SEL set who knows, but it certainly sounds like it's a real thing at this point.

There will be no S series wedge. The wedge coming is supposed to be a new take on design wedge for the higher lofts.

I haven't seen anything but I would bet the SEL set is a 4-GW with 4 & 5 irons being 921 Forged and 6-GW being 921 Tour. I suspect this because they typically don't make a 3 iron in the JPX Forged line.

Thoughts on whether the 921 Forged Chromoly will have higher ball speeds and a softer feel vs the 919 Forged w/ Boron? That alone would be a reason for me to upgrade

I’ll Likely buy them if they’ve improved feel along with distance, descent and dispersion from the 919 forged. Otherwise I’ll look elsewhere. Looking forward to seeing these and the ZX5s.

This SEL stuff needs to stop. its bad enough that they don't offer more left handed options but the mixed set "special edition" on the few sites I've seen only sell it as a whole set so if you wanted maybe a hybrid instead of the long irons you're stuck buying them anyway.

Their argument has always been that there's not enough demand for, for example, a straight lefty JPX Tour set. But then they roll out the MP-20s and the only option is 5-PW in MB?? Okay ...

That’s where Mizuno is drawing the line- they simply cannot afford offering the kind of options lefties would like to have. They’re not big enough a player in the golf world.

The 919 forged feel much better than the 919 hot metal pros, so switching to chromoly (used HM pro) over 1025 with a trace of boron can’t feel softer/better.

Forged steel feels better than cast steel. Cast chromoly feels better than cast steel in my opinion (I am sure some will disagree). So why couldn't forged chromoly feel just as good or better than forged steel? We will all find out soon enough when we hit them, but I am 100% looking forward to trying them out. I can't see a scenario where Mizuno didn't test them like crazy and assess feel over the past 2 years of R&D.

I'm not sure I buy that line. It makes sense for an actual small brand like sub70 but all the other brands selling at the big stores have much better lefty offerings including Wilson which I imagine has a smaller share of club sales then mizuno.

If any golf company thinks a product will not generate a profit it’s unlikely they’ll make the product. There’s plenty of money being spent on the path from concept to hitting store shelves. To make 50% of your club offerings in LH would get awfully expensive. Not to mention LH golfers are such a small percentage of all golfer, you’re whittling away any chance you have to make a buck.

I don’t buy it either. The 919s were available in hot metal and forged for lefties. Presumably those will still be offered so they just decided to stop making lefty tour irons at 6 because of demand? There’s no demand for a 5 iron?
