Actually they dropped a few prices - hybrids and fairways as well, but they messed with shaft prices. Hybrids came down to $195 from $225 but the Fuji Pro 2.0 was standard at $225 and is now a $100 upcharge. Interesting actions from PXG

Im not sure if they will be able to improve on the Gen2 but i have noticed that the Gen2 woods have dropped in price again !!! PXG is no longer a luxury brand but more of a volume discount brand, their niche seems to be $99 irons ea. and $195 woods and $200 drivers. They had a good run but i think they are the Snake eyes brand right now. Not to mention their never ending sale has been extended once more cause there are "Heros Everywhere" The only time this sale ends is when they lower it even more. I have owned several sets of the Gen1 and Gen2 and Gen 3 irons but they have cheapened their brand to a point where they are no longer a luxury good. I hope something comes along to replace them in the niche luxury market. Rumors of a forged blade like iron to be released should be the Gen 4 irons, but i don't believe there is a market for a product that is comparable to most manufacturers for triple the price and a brand label that has been cheapened significantly.

Proto+ price dropped to $395 but stock shafts are $100 uncharge so total price remains at $495 unless I'm missing something.

I would disagree with cheapening their brand. They increased the Gen3 iron price this month and are slowly changing the prices back to where they were. I think it indicates that replacement clubs are coming and they are dumping inventory in the midst of a slow down in the market overall - AND at the same time increasing their customer base.

Far from cheapen the brand, I would say it was genius to be able to do that. Most companies are sitting on the 2020 product and are debating on whether or not to dump the 2020 product or just change it to 2021 - meanwhile PXG has increased customer base, dumped the product that had to sell in 2020. PXG does not go by a model year, they go by a model. It helps them out because a Gen 2 iron is not associated with a year, it just is what it is and the value of that is shown in 2020. Tie a product to a year and its value decreases as soon as you move away from that year.

PXG is a "different" animal. I am sure Bob Parsons would agree that it is hard to quantify him or his companies - you are either attracted to that or you are not. I think their moves in 2020 are eye opening and I bet you are going to see some major OEMs rethinking their strategies with respect to their product launches

Why is their niche a $99 iron when the Gen 2 is at $159 before any shaft upgrades (and 3 yers old) and the Gen 3 is at $375? The Gen 3 price is way out there and only dipped to $340 an iron at the low.

The shaft I got in mine is still a no upcharge shaft - Riptide. They are playing around at this point from my perspective. Generating buzz in a flat to declining market.

Not going to go get fit, but playing the smoke yellow in my Gen2 and like it ok. How does the Riptide compare in this head?

Going to pick one up soon at this price with a no up charge shaft.

I have not hit the Smoke Yellow in this head, but I have hit the regular Riptide in my Epic Flash SZ and the Smoke Yellow in the same club. I have hit regular Riptide in a Mavrik FW, and I have hit the Riptide CB in the Proto driver and the Gen2 FWs.

I think the Smoke Yellow is a bit stouter in flex than the Riptide CB. Similar shafts but the CB feels like it is more counter balanced and that it has a softer feel - not meaning it feels like a regular versus a stiff or that the Riptide CB is a weak shaft. Far from it, the Riptide CB stands up but has more feel IMO - kind of like what the profile is supposed to do. If that is right for you depends on what you like. This is not a huge change either, but it has been a big change for me.

I’ll echo the above statement. The Smoke Yellow is a stouter/stiffer feeling shaft vs the Cb Riptide. When I got fit, I felt like I could really swing the Smoke but also had to work harder to make it work too. The Riptide was easier to swing and numbers were a tad better too. Figured the easier swinging of the two would be beneficial at the end of a round when I was getting tired.

 

now having said that, I’ve got a Rogue White I’m currently getting tipped up to try in my Proto.

I don’t think they are cheapening the brand Even with the Gen 3 discount the irons are still close to $300 per club if you are referring to the 0211 irons those are more in line with mainstream offerings and perform very well I recently ordered a hybrid with Fuji Pro shaft for $225 A week later the same shaft was $100 up charge which I found odd

I play the brand and was a PXG enthusiast but the 0211 gives great performance and is $99 a head, the Gen2 irons are fantastic as well and they are $159 a head, although this is not cheap by any means, it has fallen quite a bit since their introduction, the only thing that seems to hold its super pricey tag is the milled wedges. PXG has definitely increased their customer base but I dont see this as a luxury brand anymore. With the deep discounts and never ending sale, it seems to be headed to a larger customer base and less of a luxury exclusive item. Great business obviously as their sales are at a all time high and they are grabbing customer share.

I insanely ordered another hybrid - they spec them as 20 days for production to begin - I am hoping it will be sooner, but what I noticed is that it is a different headcover. They used to say PXG Lifted headcover. Now it says PXG 2020 Hybrid Headcover & PXG 2020 Headcover Patch Hybrid 25.

Has anyone seen any of the new headcovers for any club? I was wondering what the new ones look like.

I ordered a 5 hybrid which took about 3 weeks to build. It arrived with a Back and White Headcover and a note saying they were out of the raised letter covers but would send one when they came back in stock. Ordered with a Fuji Pro 2.0 and hate the shaft. My bad I know. Went on line Friday to order a 19 degree hybrid and the Fuji Pro was an extra $100 upcharge. I went with a KBS which was not an upcharge. In any event loving my PXG Proto + Driver irons and hybrid. Anyone gaming their wedges?

I’m gaming the original forged wedges. I’m a huge fan of them. I have the 52 and 58 to go with the 0311Ts. But I also love my Fuji 2.0 8S in the hybrid lol.

Good to know on wedges. Not saying the shaft is t good. It just doesn’t work for me. Fortunately I have a GD Tour AD DI 75 that I popped in that puppy and it came to life for me! May have to give the wedge a try. The Sugar Daddy is still prices way out of my range

For $125 a wedge I think they’re a great deal. They seem to be out of the 56deg in right handed regular finish though FYI.

i think that Black and White cover is ugly compared to the lifted headcover - I am hoping the new cover looks good.

I ordered a 4 hybrid and got the Fuji shaft in it and like it. I was not going to pay $100 for it this time since I can buy it new for $100. I ordered the KBS and it was a $35 up-charge. I look forward to its arrival.

I have the Gen 1 forged wedges and love them. I also have a set of the Sugar Daddy wedges and those suckers are really nice. They just feel great and have awesome grooves. Would I pay full price for them? No way. The regular forged wedges are close enough. The only reason I bought the set of them is they looked awesome and they were about half the regular price.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ll chime in. I bought the Gen2 0811x back in April and got it end of May...played it for month of June and switched to the Proto X as of 2-3 weeks ago. For me the Proto is Quite a bit more forgiving and just as long if not a touch longer then the Gen2. Really loving the Proto.

Ahh. So the regular Proto is not forgiving that the Gen2 0811x. Good stuff. I thought you might have posted before. I need to reread this thread.

I am a low ball hitter and afraid the 9* will be too low. I am like you using a 10.5 0811x Smoke Yellow and it is pretty close to perfect for me. I will be using the GD AD IZ in the Proto.

the X+ (10.5) is every bit as forgiving as the Gen2...I just fit into the 9’ head because it helps me keep my spin down since I have a negative (downward) strike and its the lower Spin of the two heads. And the 9’ head for me launches very similar to the 10.5 Gen2 I had. I am playing the Proto at 10.5 where the Gen2 was at 11.5

I like the low spin option of the 0811x Gen2. I think the Proto May be the right thing for me after reading this.
