PXG 0311P Gen 3 help!

I was really lucky and picked up a set of 0311P with 120 Nippon s shafts and a great price. normally I would not shell out that kind of cash for these clubs but got a great deal. I hear the world changes when you play these clubs. So why not. Right now I play a Callaway Apex 19 with Oban ct-115 shafts and love them. Like LOVE. So maybe coming in to playing the PXG’s I had really high expectations, but I was honestly underwhelmed. Has anyone else felt like that. The club face is quite big. More offset than my Apex 19s. I don’t play much anymore, ordinarily I’d be playing an Apex Pro but since I’m only out there once or twice a month I figured I I’d rather have more fun than few frustrated and got myself the more forgiving of the two. I still feel the Apex 19 to be more of a players iron than the 0311P. Am I alone in that feeling? Should i maybe have gone for a 0311T? Where would you say the Apex 19 sits compared to the 0311P and 0311T? Forgiveness, workability. Etc. maybe it’s the oban shaft. Love these things. Any comments, mutual feelings, disagreements welcome.

Oh and if you want a smoking deal on a set of 0311P Gen 3 4-PW. Let me know.

Can't compare apples to oranges when you aren't using the same shaft, or an optimized shaft for the clubhead through a fitting. It sounds like the T would have been way better for you, I think the P is too big and the sole is too wide in short/mid irons. 3&4 iron in the P and 5-W in the T is the way to go I think!

I was debating getting 4-6 in P's and 7-P in T's because I was worried about the forgiveness in the long irons. I ended up going all T's and man am I glad I did! They are super forgiving all the way through the set, have very minimal offset, and a compact head size. Overall, I think the T is the perfect iron.

The P's you got should match up to the Apex irons. The T's would match size and offset wise to the Apex Pro's I think.

0311T = Apex Pro level. I had both, I'm 100% on board with the 0311T.

The Apex 19 is a smaller heel-to-toe length than the 0311P. Its a bit of a unique short blade length players distance iron. They're not exactly the same. But they target the same player.

I did a combo set, 8-pw in T and 4-7 in P. I have the Oban Ct 115 in mine and they're fantastic. Great feel throughout and good forgiveness in the long irons. The Oban's are just amazing. Finally kicked my original P790 out of the bag. Try them with the same shafts and you'll feel differently is my guess

What’s your handicap? I’m coming from the Apex 19 Combo set (splits at the 7 and 8 iron) and pretty sure I’m going to do the 0311P in 5-7 and 0311T in 8-PW as well. Originally I thought I’d do either 6-PW or 7-PW in the T but after comparing the numbers of the T against the P with the 7 iron, the numbers tell me I should play the 0311P in 7 iron.

@GolfChicago91 how's the transition from t to p? I have a p 4 iron in the mail, but worry about the offset as compared to the t's. numerically they look like they'll be different but im not sure what it will look like in person. also.. love those obans!

Regardless of my handicap, if the numbers say 7 in the P, get the 7 in the P? I'm around a 9 currently, but there are other factors other than handicap that should go into the decision. For me, I just knew 8 iron down, I can find the center of the club face. 7 I usually do, but I wanted the added forgiveness, so I got the P.

IMO, go with the P in the 7 if that's what the numbers tell you.

@mxskier I don't mind the transition personally, but like I said, I'm coming from P790s, so the T would be more different if anything. I don't mind the difference between 7 and 8 moving from P to T. Slightly larger head and offset just give me more confidence standing over the ball. I think PXG did a good job of making the offset look minimal, and the topline doesn't look massive, which is a huge plus for me.

FWIT, I moved from the Mizuno Hot Metal Pro to the Gen3 0311 P in 5-GW. Both with the Modus 105 Stiff. I think the 0311P’s are very significantly better. Feel, distance, accuracy all better for me, while also having a steeper descent angle. Not sure how either compare to the Apex 19, but just another reference point.

There is nothing wrong with someone feeling underwhelmed after purchasing a set of PXG's. They are very nice not for the price as let's be realistic. That goes for any overpriced set of irons. Over hyped and high expectations will more than likely lead to a big disappointment. People can spend there money however they want but when you're telling me you got a fantastic deal and still underwhelmed doesn't surprise me. Maybe you read into too much how at 1st everybody was saying how they are the holy grail of irons. Soon afterward the novelty wear thin. No different in someone spending $500 plus for a putter as its not going to make you a better putter as your never going to hear someone saying how they still have 3 putts and went out and spent over $500 on that------ putter. Just hope you didn't sell your Apex 19's. I'm sure you will have no trouble selling the PXG's especially for a smoking deal
