Ping Blueprint Standard vs. Power Loft Spec

Anyone have any input on the pro’s and con’s of the different loft specs. I just got fit and the recommendation was to go power spec and hard step the shafts i was fitted for, since the apex height was just too high. Thoughts/Suggests, and anything else welcome. Thanks in advance!

Trying to control the shots better especially in wind.

I think club selection and shot shape is the answer at that point. I’m sure you have stock yardages but how about stingers, punch shots etc? Shots that you can draw and knock spin off etc....

Blueprints are an ace irons by Ping. They are so true and surprisingly forgiving for the size.

I have the shots just not consistently. They did feel amazing, and i could definitely shape shots again.

Did your fitter have a demo model ? If so he/she should be willing to bend it to power spec to test. Easy to bend. And then bend back. I have been playing blueprint since 3 weeks before they hit stores. And mine are actually 1 degree weak. I’m playing modus 130x. And while I can hit it high. They don’t automatically want to balloon.

I have to say it. please don’t take offense , But if you truly hit the big moon ball and can’t come down , It’s a swing flaw. I play with a guy that way. Hits it sooo high. Can’t go down at all. Windy days eat his lunch. And I love it. Lol.

The power spec may help. But think of it this way. Which iron do you not balloon ? 3-4-5? That will only change by 1 when you bend them strong. Would be much better to learn to flight it down. I’ve been there is why I’m saying it.

Agreed. Even the tour pros with 120+ swing speed are able to flight iron shots down. I don’t know how much bending the irons strong will help you out.

be careful with trying to over engineer ping clubs. They already did it lol.

 

My concern with high spin guys is, when do I no longer give you room for error.

Yes he did, and we did try both setups and shafts, which did help quite a bit. I'm sure there’s more than one thing wrong with my swing!

Great point, one of my concerns as well. This may fail, and I’m willing to try another route if so...

Swing your swing, do your thing, play them pings, everybody on this forum has swing flaws. What works today, want work tomorrow. Pros have a trackman to see what happens daily, a fitting is only a guideline for the day you were fitted.

How high is your apex? 7 iron swing speed?

Apex was 130’s speed I’d have to look up.

130’s is about 20 feet high, unless you’re hitting it a country mile.. That’s an issue. Very stiff shafts didn’t help I assume? And how about spin, did your 7i spin under or over 6500 on average?

Got it down to 115, xstiff didn’t help. I didn’t like the feel either. I believe under.

I'm not the specific guy @bladehunter was referring to but I am "That Guy" that hits it too high because of swing flaws and struggles majorly in windy conditions.
I'm a mid-high swing speed guy and tried many x-stiff shafts and shafts didn't seem to make any consistently measurable difference in launch angle. I have a SkyTrak and spent a lot of time trying to work my way into a lower launch angle with shafts.
I started videoing my swing face on instead of down the line and realized my impact position is so bad I have trouble understanding how it's physically possible for it to look like that.
I've since been working on practicing specifically to get my hands more forward at impact and am starting to see results. I went from 24-25 degrees launch with 34 degree 7iron to 20 degrees. I can get it a little lower in drills but when I go to a full speed swing I'm still not where I want to be.
I'm sorry I'm not speaking specifically for the Blueprints (maybe my favorite looking iron ever btw) but like others have mentioned, the way too high ball is likely swing related and not something easily fixed with lofts or shafts alone.
On a positive note, those high ball high spin players are able to hold greens quite well when they hit em ?

Exactly correct. The end goal is to learn low while retaining the ability to go upstairs. When you start playing with impact position you will see what you’re seeing now. Also pay attention to angle of attack. You can dramatically change high or low by shallowing or steepening the AOA.

If you trust your fitter then go with his recommendation, seems he's given you the rationale for making that choice. Why create doubt by opening it up here to speculation from people who have no knowledge of your golf swing?

I’m probably in that same boat. Waiting to see reviews on the Mevo+ so I can do exactly what you stated above.
