Honma Equipment

They are nice but when J.Rose left TaylorMade for Honma then won early in the season everybody jumped on the Bandwagon. Look at Bryson just won his tournament. The Cobra SpeedZone drivers are now selling like crazy. I bet TaylorMade gain more fans again now that Rose is back with them.

I have a TW737 Driver and that thing is a fairway finder! I really like the club but the shaft seems a bit soft for stiff flex. I know they make all of their products in house which I think is cool.

Reading through the posts, I am definitely not at the level of some of the folks here but would like to add that I had played the Honma's for a bit, 747v w/ Modus3 Tour 105R Hard Stepped. I absolutely loved these and replaced my 718AP2s. However the swing weight was all wrong from the custom order and was pushing a D5. Honma was good at fixing them after some push/pull and then I tried the Srixon Z785 and never looked back. Also all of the changes for senior leadership with Honma have me a bit concerned. I would definitely test them again and wish they had more shaft options for driver.

I had a set of the hollow TW X in their Vizard graphite shafts which I didn’t get a long with. Kinda wish I had reshafted them as the heads were felt and looked great.

They are, except they’re fully hollow with no gel or polymer filling. They felt softer than the i500s I demoed for a few rounds but the 0211s I’m in now feel MUCH better and they’re cast vs TW X forged.

i wish I had gotten the Honmas in the Modus 105 or Elevate 95 shafts as the stock Vizard R was not a good fit for me.

I just picked up a set of Rose Protos and a set of LZ shafts to do a DIY MOI build. They look fantastic and I am confident that since I'm comfortable with MP-20 MBs that I'll be comfortable with these. The LZs already had my preferred grips, the Modus Tour 120X have a strong solid resale value, and Rose Protos are so cheap now, so when it's all done I'll have less than $600 in them including professional build labor. Even if I don't love them it'll be worth it to find out if I prefer the DIY MOI progression. I'll likely swap out the 4-iron for something more forgiving, but I'm going to wait and see how it works. I'll come back here and update when I have them in hand, but I'm pretty excited.

Unfortunately they werent forged.. i had a set.. really loved them... just missed that extra softness and were a tad too loud which is wierd becuase im not really one to usually pay too much attention to those things. They were gi forgiveness in a player distance iron package which was amazing. Very thin toplines and minimal offset which was great.. went with mizuno mmc 20 instead..

Still trying to get to a chance to hit them, but I've got my set back in hand. Build turned out really well. We kept the ferrules from the original shafts since they have the serial # and frankly are really nice. Obviously I've blown warranty, but nice to have access to the SN. If you look closely at the set don't let the wedges fool you. The 49* is 50* and the 56* is 55*. Looking forward to actually putting them to use! They look great. The top line is thin but not scary, the top line to hosel is as attractive as anything else, and I'm told the heads were extremely consistent in weight progression. The lofts were also spot on from the factory, so they basically only touched the lies. If they wind up a touch heavy I'll have the lengths shaved down 1/2 SW point across the set. Despite how this may look, I definitely believe that it's the archer more than the arrow, but this is my opportunity to try a new style with DIY MOI and decide whether I want to stick with that, and being able to get the precision build from the friends I've made at the shop has been great. .

So, long story short keep your eyes on BST or PM me if interested. This was an experiment with the DIY MOI match and 3/8” length progression along with the heads themselves. I think I overshot the swingweights, and I think for me those heads could use a bit of a grind on the leading edge. Both of those are fixable, but at the end of the day I just don’t think I’m good enough to play these effectively. If I trim them and grind them and still want to replace the long irons then I’ve killed all remaining value. Might as well just move on. Feel wise they are firmer than the old MP-32 and 60 set I’ve had for years, but then again most everything is. Very solid feeling is how I’d describe it. They’re longer than I expected, too, but as pure as these clubs are I think I just bit off more then I could chew, and I’m not looking to have multiple sets.

As for the experiment of SW slope I think I’ll stick to the progressive SW but probably on a somewhat flatter slope. I’ll lose some money on this but it’s been informative.

so a question as to bending the lie fangle or the TW 747P..since these are not forged, anyone have experience with bending the lie angle for these cast irons..due to back back, i now play irons more upright than standards. Need to know if clubmakers here in Fla can do this easily ori will need to return to Honma to have this work? Any thoughts/experiences out there? Thank you

My understanding has always been that cast clubs have memory and IF they can even be bent they'll return. And they'll likely break while bending. That said, with all the multi-material constructions and whatnot, it's totally possible that they've got a bendable hosel on a cast head. Just be careful and if somebody doesn't have specific expertise maybe get a second or third opinion.

”Memory” can only occur if applied yield stress is lower than the yield strength of the material. Once yield strength is exceeded, plastic deformation occurs up to the ultimate strength. It doesn’t matter if the material is cast or forged. Cast has a lower ultimate strength than forged & therefore will fail more readily.
