Kelly Tilghman to join CBS broadcast team next week at PGA Championship

Well remember who she is friends with. About the only way she could have avoided the fate that fells so many after her controversial comment.

(Not saying I agree or disagree with the decision or the climate that exists that leads to so many firings, only that a double standard appeared to be in play with her situation.)

in this new era of political correctness and cancel culture I think CBS is trying to get ahead of any potential controversy. KT isn't IMO a lightning rod, she may be vanilla but the last thing CBS wants is to give anybody a reason to boycott their sponsors and call for an announcer to be pulled off of a telecast. I think she also gives CBS and ANGC a legit anchor for the Women's Amateur..TV stations usually test on air personalities in front of focus groups before throwing them on camera, KT must have "tested" well in order to get the gig

Or- how about she is a darn good, experienced pro at exactly the position they need to fill? Why insist on all the "code words" which seem to insinuate somehow there is a better hire to be had "BUT"....

Potential controversy??? Boycott? I mean where is all this even coming from? Strikes me that you seem to feel as though she is at worst a novelty and at best a token hire - justifiable only given your ready made rationaliztions... all but to each there own.

Have you been living under a rock recently? There are people who are digging as deep as possible on some/all public figures to see if at one time in their history ever have made a statement they don't like. Again, back to what I said regarding KT's comment several years ago that would have gotten anyone else on GC fired, but given whom she is friends with....

CBS, and every network for that matter, is looking to make sure anyone they hire won't bring attention to them.

you have me pegged wrong. I have always been a KT fan , I think its a great hire, I have learned to choose my words carefully here because I got a warning once before for expressing what I thought was an honest view but was viewed as being political. So if you think Im speaking in code I assure you I am not, if my reasons dont agree with you then so be it, but they are strictly an opinion

OK now I guess I recall the incident you are dancing around.....I don't think that fits the definition of a "double standard". She said someting stupid and offensive....Tiger likes her, gave her a pass so they didn't fire her. The double standard would be if Trip Eisenhower purposefully killed a protected species bird with golf equipment, appologized and subsequently was not given a chance at a new career on golf channel TV.

In my opinion this "cancel culture" concept is a red herring....it most often means the "jig is up" on habitual jerks who thought they were impervious to societal norms.....this is still a great country where good people who make mistakes often get 2nd chances. This fine website would lose all types of creadiblity for censoring you for mearly mentioning actual facts and events that would be silly.

You guys read the piece?

According to this quote, it seems she is doing post round coverage, not in the booth,

“Tilghman will host the PGA Championship Clubhouse Report live from TPC Harding Park after the conclusion of play, Thursday through Sunday, with highlights, analysis and player interviews along with analysts Colt Knost and Rich Beem, and select guests.”

She seems better for that type of role, not sure if a regular spot during live broadcast is her thing.

But, overall, she’s good. Like, good. Nice, likeable, respected....good.

Agreed. I think people have forgotten how bad she was on GC.
