Pumped for JT to get the win and rise back to World Number 1. He somehow seems to get it done more often than not but, he sure makes it hard on himself. Without the lick on 11 and 15, he is likely not winning. Same thing happened at Sentry earlier in the year, got lucky to get into the playoff and lucky during it. The big right miss seems to be an issue when he is really under the gun. That missed caused him to just fall short at the Workday and it was the same at Mexico earlier in the year. His short game and being gritty as heck sure does cure those ills though.

Typical,had backed Brooks to win,then he blows it with terrible chip at the 16th then the wretched drive at 18 after driving perfect all day.Wont be winning next week either,,obviously can’t handle the pressure anymore when leading.Very poor.

 

Also Rickie Fowler must be one of the most overrated players on the tour,gets a chance to win,then plays like a high handicapper,does it numerous times,and will never win a major.

You're having trouble following the conversation. Go back and read post #196.

There are numerous categories for exemptions into this year's open. The discussion started with a question whether a SINGLE tour win would get a player in. And I posted the relevant category for that question - a single win isn't enough, but multiple wins would do it.

You're correct in that he qualified via a different exemption category. Lots of guys are in the field without winning an event this season, but it's not relevant to the question asked.

Yeah, but nobody really mentions the horrible break he got on the hole where it bounded off the side of the green into the down-slope of the bunker, where he literally had not chance to get it out..This was 15 maybe? Another foot lower in the bunker and he probably saves par. Breaks go both ways.

That was a poor break but (as a massive JT fan) he brought that one on himself by going for that pin which was a complete sucker pin. To end up where it did was an awful bit of luck but if he had been more conservative then he would have been fine. Looking at 11 his game plan and where he was aiming meant that he some good luck. You could see that he was aiming away from the pin on a conservative line but pushed/cut it a little. If he had been going for the pin and hit that shot he ends up wet, as it was, his game plan resulted in him getting a good break.

That could be. I would say every winner on tour has some lucky breaks somewhere in 72 holes, he just happened to catch two of them very late in the chase, and in very high visibility situations.

I more want to know what Brooks was doing 18? Was he trying to hug the left line to get a shorter shot in, or did he just pull it.

I was extremely surprised to see Brooks hit that foul ball off 18. The concern for him is that he missed right on 17 and then left on 18. He typically hits a fade so the right miss on 17 was understandable, the left miss on 18 will be more of a concern for sure. I think that it was just a miss as opposed to biting off more than he needed to simply working on the basis of him hitting 3 wood as opposed to driver. My thinking being that if he wanted to get one really down there, then he would have been more likely to grab driver.

Yep, I forgot that was a 3W, so you're right makes no sense to be cutting it short.

I do think he had his putting going very well. He rolled so many early on that were great rolls that just didn't go in. Hope he doesn't get frustrated and start tinkering with it. Seemed like he stayed patient and got a few to drop towards the end, especially the bomb on 17.

I love JT and Roy, but hope Brooks has his game on point this week. Should be fun to watch.

They brought up his two way miss he's had recently on the Live from the PGA show. I guess he's somewhat fixed that and is why he's playing better. Maybe just creeped back in there at 18.
