Somewhat new to DFW and looking to get my game in top shape for this upcoming year. Need a good club fitter. I live on the Fort Worth side of the metroplex but willing to drive for the best fitting possible. Price/indoor/outdoor, etc what do I need to know. Let me know of your experiences. Thanks in advance.

Leonard Links is know to have some good ones. For a driver, i'd recommend club champion in plano. Personally, i would never get fit off a mat for irons or wedges, but their driver fitting was solid. It's pricey though.

How much we talking for a driver fitting there?

Have been researching it a bit and it seems like around $150 for driver is common

Will look into CompuGolf

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. Was hoping there would be that ONE go to in the DFW though to make things easy lol.

I ended up with a Cobra LTD driver with Paderson shaft in it. Pured, etc... (if that really helps). First, there is probably zero chance i'd ever end up with a cobra golf club, but the numbers were undeniable. They (Club Champion Golf) took me through Ping, TM, Callaway, Cobra and Titelist. I play to a 6 index. Avg driver swing speed on trackman was 108. The cobra w/ the shaft combo i had was blowing the others out of the water for me. All in was ~$900 which included the fitting cost. $450 head, $300 shaft and the $150 Fitting. I had a $250 gift card to their shop. I have put probably 40-50 rounds on that driver and remain very pleased.

They are upfront about that. They clearly say on their website and in person that the fitting covers their cost of having every shaft and clubhead under the sun in their studio. Again, you'd never go to a place like this if you are looking for any kind of a deal. Occasionally they offer promos on their fitting costs. i have several friends that laughed at me only to realize they've bounced between off the rack drivers for 3 years totaling well over what i paid. I don't see myself changing anytime soon.

Looked up Leonard Links in Fort Worth since it was on my side of the metroplex. Looks like the fitter there, Steve, has been given some recognition in Gold Digest. Also liked the fact that it would be an outdoor fitting. Website doesn't have prices listed so I'll call to inquire. Just wondering if you or anyone else has any experience with this location?

Not sure you will find a better fitter in the DFW area than Steve at Leonard Golf. Regardless if you are looking at driver, irons, wedges, hybrids, or fairway, he won't try to steer you to any one particular OEM or setup. Fitting is outside on grass and Trackman is available. As far as public practice facilities in Tarrant County, it's as good as you'll find. There will also be a large demo day at Leonard, usually the second or third weekend in April; most of the OEM's attend.

Saw this WRX thread a while back, looks like the OP is working with Steve now.

Frank at Sellinger's in Addison and Jonathan Weaver at Cool Clubs in Lewisville would be my top two choices. I have been to cool clubs a couple of times and Weaver is great some of the others not so good. Frank is awesome at Sellingers, downside is indoor only there. However I have done a driver fitting there. Cool Clubs does have an outdoor range as well so you will get indoor + outdoor so slight edge there, however Frank is probably the best of the bunch, slight edge over Jonathan Weaver. If you are going to do wedges or putter cool clubs has short game and putter fitting but Sellingers is long game only. Can't go wrong either way IMO.

Steve @ Leonard's is great. No charge if you buy your clubs with him. I know they carry pretty much every club you could possibly try. Haven't tested many of the upgraded shafts, but I am sure they would have plenty in stock as well. I am a lefty so occasionally he won't have a certain club available to test as a lefty, but other than that it is a great experience to work with Steve.

Update to Steve at Leonard's -

He seems a bit disinterested in helping. Also, he randomly increased his pricing $25. Not a huge deal, but should have said it when booking over the phone. I did ask what the cost was and they quoted the old price. When I asked about it he said nope it changed sorry. He wouldn't honor it so I was stuck paying the higer price. He presses you hard to order through him and get a bit PO'd when you don't. Lastly, he used to bring out a launch monitor, but won't anymore. I was fitting for a FW and he told me there was no need, doing it by sight is best. Sadly, there aren't many places that can/will do outdoor fittings.

I got fit by Bobby at Club Champion. He was awesome.

If you are cost conscience, this aint it. But if you want the best quality built golf clubs, that is what you will get, but like the fitting, they come at a premium. After youve played with em a bit and things arent working out, go back and tell them and they will make adjustments to the clubs at no cost.

I know not fitting related, but I've been very impressed with club work I've had done at Golf Tech in Plano (Bo Hodnett). I used to take my clubs to another shop with a good reputation, but was not nearly as impressed by their work or customer service. Also, Golf Tech's fitting area does look top notch and if I need a fitting in the future it will be the first place I go.

Bobby at club champ Plano, or the guy who used to run that shop, Joel. He's now at club champ Ft worth. A bit of a haul, but I've never had a single club made by him(or just fit by him) that didn't immediately give me results on the course.

Anything that didn't work was a loft/lie issue and he fixed. My swing changed making me need a different 4wd, and he was right on it. I got higher lofted irons from him and he got me into the right wedge to close the gap and lofted up the set wedge to create the right gaps.

Top notch and I'll drive 1+ hr just to get his expertise.
