Priority Mail is broken - Switch to UPS for BST deals?

USPS will pickup at my door, UPS or FedEx won't. USPS is cheaper. Yes, there are delays right now, yes it's annoying. I've had some pretty significant delays both shipping and receiving. I'm hopeful things return to normal when the Covid mess is solved someday. In the whole scheme of things, it's a pretty small problem to have though. In my opinion, Fix Covid, then the mail will be one of 1,00 things that get fixed.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

I got a club from a guy here on WTB and according to the USPS website it took 5 days for the club to travel 100 miles from Eastchester NY to Newark NJ. Completely unacceptable on all counts. It still has another 2000+ miles to go to get to me. Should get it by Christmas at that pace.

I’m the OP and it’s a west coast incident that got me to start this thread. One of the workers told me the managers are not utilizing the teams assigned to priority as they did in the past. He is as unhappy as we are.

I shipped a package for a BST sale last week from Boston to Minnesota using USPS Priority Mail. Shipped on Wednesday 7/29 and arrived on Saturday 8/1. I've shipped several other packages recently and only one was delayed, and that was only for one additional day. It seems very dependent on location.

I find most of my shipments from Atlanta to west of the MS river do just fine. The problem happened for me shipping to the NE or getting packages from the NE. I went to FedEx without issue then my latest package to Ohio I used UPS. The irons were packed very well in a very sturdy box. Last night I get a message UPS has mauled the box and the 5 iron was bent. Going through their claims process now. Hopefully it all gets solved. Just shows there are no perfect solutions.

Just sent off two BST sales via USPS Priority from just outside Boston. One going to Arizona, the other to Oregon. Both say expected delivery is Saturday 8/8. We'll see what happens.

WRONG!

I overnighted (yes, express) a package from socal to the seattle area last wednesday that was supposed to arrive on Friday 7/31. The package still hasn't gotten a tracking update since it arrived in Los Angeles (after a 20 mile travel lol) on 8/1. Contrary to their website announcements that priority mail express is functioning normally, it's not!

PSA - Overnight also having issues!

I have three packages of decent value sent to three different areas that have departed the recipients distribution center about 3-4 days ago and now have no delivery date. Just on the way to the next facility, which hopefully is the local post office. Yes, it’s broke. Mostly Covid 19, but likely other longer term problems.

This goes way beyond logistical challenges related to Covid, although that’s certainly a complicating factor.

There have been major management changes at USPS. Whether right or wrong, this has led to a systemic strategic decision to allow major delays to occur. I don’t want to post linkS for fear of getting political. You can simply google “USPS delays” and find stories from a variety of news outlets about the changes going on.

For those that have gotten their items in a timely manner, you are very lucky. I’m sitting in the south waiting for packages shipped out 2 weeks ago, 1 from west coast and one from Florida. Tracking hasn’t budged in 2 weeks.

I won’t be using USPS for the foreseeable future and will request that it not be used to ship items to me if at all possible. It’s sad because I would like the postal service to survive and I don’t necessarily believe in privatizing everything, but I just can accept this level of service.

This happens with the USPS from time to time even well before Covid. No to defend the USPS as I've had many packages take crazy roundabout ways to get delivered to me however remember many USPS packages are moved around the country via UPS, FedEx and other contracted carriers. Every carriers tracking during this time can be delayed/incorrect.

I have a package being shipped from NY to Western NC via UPS. It made it from NY to Butner NC sort facility in two days. It has now been sitting at that same sort center in Butner NC for ten days and they can't tell me when it will move or be delivered. My daughter and a couple friends have had the same issue here with UPS. I've had no issues here with packages from USPS Priority so it seems a crap shoot depending on where you may be located as to whom may be better to use for shipping.

I now have two packages and $700 worth of equipment just floating around the country, apparently.

One package has been "in transit" with no update scans for nearly a week, (10 days since shipped) and the other for two days. I'm not buying the COVID excuse, considering I've sent 30-40 packages Priority since February and literally none of them were delayed or went missing until "someone" began demanding that mail service be purposefully slowed to a crawl.

Meanwhile, the irons I shipped UPS ground made it with no issues from Arizona to Ohio in 4 days.

Set of irons shipped from Boston to AZ is out for delivery today. Technically a 1 day delay, but 3 business days from MA to AZ is fine by me. Shipping cost is another story. Crazy how much it costs to ship a set of irons now.

In the past two months we've had half a dozen packages delayed via Priority Mail, one from UPS and one from FedEx (we receive UPS/FedEx packages much less often than USPS). It's all a crapshoot for the foreseeable future. If you absolutely must get guaranteed delivery time, the overnight services ($$$) are the only current option. Otherwise, not much choice but to be patient.
