New Project X LS Iron Shaft

Recommended Posts

I hit the LS 7.0 on range and course today. I do prefer the weight over the 6.5 personally. I brought some other clubs to the range:

Modus 120tx hardstepped

C taper 125 hardstepped

Px LS 7.0

Dynamic gold x7 soft stepped (gamers)

Going off of feels the above sums up the over flex from softest to stiffest. The LS does feel a lot like c taper to me. I could play any of these shafts. The LS feels more linear in flex to me. The x7 although very stiff overall has that small hinge in it but is a tighter shaft than the LS. I dont ha e any numbers but I had no issues hitting LS into my windows. LS does not feel boardy to me at all (neither does c taper like so many report). LS feel is much better than standard Px. I think LS would give me more versatility over the x7. X7 just being so laser like. LS is tight but just a tad more over all flex than X7. Will definately play with it more and may bag them soon.

I have a set of 6.0 LZ shafts collecting dust in the garage. They sure are different, real soft butt and tip - produce really high trajectory. Its the kind of shaft some of us with fast tempos have to go up a flex even two to get decent result. Not worth my effort. I might just go back to PX or KBS They are the best shafts I have played since taking up the game.

So I got a set of 6.5 3-PW and 3 wedge shafts for my 50, 54, and 58. Played with them a couple of times now since they were all installed last week. I have played the C Taper 130x and most recently X100 Tour Issue. I HATED the tour issue...I just could not get used to the feel and my timing constantly felt off. I wanted to go back to PX and figured with liking the C Tapers, this might be the perfect combo for me. 3 rounds in, I LOVE them. They do remind me a lot of the C Tapers but more of the PX feel. I always felt like PX was a weird fit for a lot of people but if  you like them, you may not like much else. For me, the new LS are excellent. Easy to flight the ball, tight dispersion, and I think I actually gained some distance. I don’t know about spin numbers but the reaction I was getting on the greens is exactly what I wanted....hit and stop. I honestly couldn’t be happier with them.

Had an iron fitting last week and it came down to project x ls and Accra i steel as my final 2.  The ls is an impressive shaft.  Still has that familiar feel like an lz where it feels more one piece and an extension of your arm.  Had really tight dispersion with both shafts.

However, I ended up choosing the Accra because I like to feel a little more load with my irons in my transition.  Obviously it’s all player specific, but I was still getting 6800-7100 spin with a 7 iron with the ls.  But I’m a high launch high spin player.  The ls did help my launch angle consistently during the fit.  The ls was also helping my ball flight start a little more right as well, which I liked.  YMMV

Well I found out today that the 6.5s won’t be in for another 2 weeks. I decided to go with the 7.0 and will soft step them. Hopefully my 92ss 7 iron is enough. I was originally think about doing this because I like the 130g weight more. Maybe a little extra tip weight and I’ll be ok. I’ll find out this weekend!

Can anyone recommend a dealer for these shafts? Local shop has no info and google keeps sending me nothing but LZ.

If you go to the PX website, you can find local true temper dealers closest to you.  I use a local guy that runs a small shop and he carries or can get pretty much anything.  If you don't have any luck, look at places like fairwayjockey, fairwaygolfusa, etc.

Are they kicking the C Tapers to the curb?

Well, I got rid of those when I went to Tour Issue X100’s. I was fitted into X100 when I went to MP20 and the numbers were better but on the course they were terrible. But comparing the two with the little bit of experience, my dispersion is the best with the LS that I can ever remember. When the LS came out I figured it was worth a shot to have my current heads re-shafted with them rather than go back to C Taper and I’m not regretting it one bit.

Im thinking of soft stepping 7.0s as well. Let us know how it goes.

I definitely will. I’ve fit perfectly into standard PX 6.5s for years but didn’t want to wait another 2 weeks to get them. I also like the extra weight of the 7.0. I weight all the shafts just because I was curious. Each shafts weighted 126g. I was a little surprised they were 4g light but amazed they were all the same weight spot on!

Update***
First round under the belt with the soft stepped 7.0s was a good one! They performed just like I was hoping for. Penetrating ball flight than reminds me of the standard PX 6.5s I played for years. These definitely feel smooth to me than standard PX. Spin was spot on, one hope and stop. The control I had with these was perfect. It will take a few more rounds to tell if these are any better on elbows but so far so good!

From the pictures I've seen of the profile it actually looks like the LS is slightly softer in the tip. Overall nearly identical to PX though, almost seems like an updated Flighted PX.

I’d believe it for sure. In theory, my soft stepped 7.0s should be stiffer than the standard 6.5s but after one round I can’t say for sure but they definitely felt smoother. Still stiff don’t get me wrong but smooth.

@nova6868 I trust the info from S3 fitting software that @Poolparty is using above a little more than the info from golf shaft reviews. Makes more sense that the tip on the LS would be stiffer, not softer. It's possible Russ got the labeling backwards on his chart. Just a guess

Golf shaft reviews may have there labels backwards on the profile chart, but these are flighted compared to regular project x.  They probably had to do it to make the long irons playable
