Puppetmaster WITB & Course Pictures

September 2015

I've been adding pictures of courses recently played as I enjoy golf visuals and it just makes things more interesting than looking at pictures of clubs, as much of a gearhead I am.

2/26/2012 - Here's one potential set-up while my other irons are out for a reshaft. I go back and forth between hybrid and 2-iron, and 3 or 4 wedge set up, depending on the course, but the woods are pretty set. Irons are lead-taped to get to D2 swing weight, having mid size grips seems to complicate things.

3/12/2011 - I wasn't planning to change my set really, but I was given the opportunity to try some new irons and somehow ended up with a completely new bag. Picture of the new bag is here:

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm planning on heading over to Golf Galaxy this weekend to see if I can get some LM stats, then I'll decide on a new driver this weekend, I've narrowed it down to between a 909 D3 and FT-9 Tour now. I'll probably give the OEM shafts a run first though. Curious to try the Diamana that comes with the Titleists, although I might want something heavier.

Yup, that's my beloved 2 iron. I was posting in another thread how I love that this set of irons despite being cast, cavity backs has almost no offset. I'm by no means a scratch player (I typically fluctuate between 7 to 10 because I only play 5-10 times a season at most) but I just feel most comfortable/confident with the way non-offset irons line up.
How do you like your R9?

Very nice setup!! How's the r9?
Thanks. I've still only played a couple rounds with it, but I like it so far I think. I definitely like the look and feel of the head but the shaft might be too soft because I'm not very consistent with it directionally. I'm starting to look for something in x-stiff, maybe another Fubuki, or the XVS6 or a Matrix Code 7, X-Con 6/7. It is definitely longer with lower spin though; my previous driver was a high, straight hitter, while this is more of a mid traj bomber with more more workability.

In the past 10 years I've only played with 3 drivers, the R9, a 9* CBB Ti 454 with Grafalloy Blue, and a 8.5* Titleist 975D with Grafalloy Prolite. In order of accuracy/straightness to max distance, I'd rank them in this order:

CBB Ti 454
975D
R9

If distance were not a consideration, I'd still like the 975D the best overall, but it is significantly shorter than the R9. I would like to try a 909 D2/D3 at some point, but just can't get used to the way they line up at address. The R9 lines up perfectly IMO (I have it set to neutral and like the TP setting as well, which is +1 notch open).
Nice stix! Although I'm not a "huge" fan of Maxfi irons...
Haha, thanks.
Nice clubs - in particular the 2-iron - always nice to see someone who prefers an iron over a hybrid. Interesting to see a 52* wedge though - how much of a gap is there between that and the PW?
My PW is 48* according to the site below, and so it is a 4* gap, which makes it a nice gap wedge. I may eventually drop the 56* altogether because I barely use it. I just got a 3 wood, so I've left out my 3 iron for now.

http://www.equip2golf.com/specifications/s...tion.html~specs

I haven't really considered a hybrid because the 2 is one of my "confidence" clubs for tee shots and if I need a long lay up on a long par 5. I just think I use it better than I would an 18* hybrid, which I still can't hit consistently, but maybe I haven't tried the right ones.

Just buy it, you know they are rare. :)

I haven't found any irons that I like better, to be honest. I don't want blades because I don't play a lot these days, but I also want something with minimal to zero offset, like these are. It is tough finding CBs like that (and sets for which they still make a 2-iron). And yes, feel wise, these are still amazing for cast clubs. I know people say that modern blades are much more playable than they used to be, but I guess I'm not willing to take that plunge yet. I am always on the lookout for a nice set of forged CBs though and have been considering the Tour Edge Exotics CNC forged.

Nice bag, brother! Those irons are the essence of "classic" looking, and that R9 looks like a beast in with the rest of those guys! LOL!

Sweet set-up! I am with you on the whole 2-iron thing as well. I have the hardest time hitting my fairway woods and used to game a 2 back in the day. Always had a lot more confidence hitting an iron vs. the wood.

Cheers,
Kev
Love your black nickel wedges, Iwould love to game them, only they dont make them for us lefties! Th scotty cameron del mar putter is... well WOW! Is it as nice to use, as it looks??? Also wondering if you had the older spin milled vokeys, and how they compare to them if you had?
I've never gamed the old Vokeys, but I have tried them and never liked them to be honest. I've always loved Cleveland wedges, but my old 588s were too light in the head and for some reason just felt "dead" recently. I really like the way the Spin Milled Vokeys feel and even though it is taking me some time to get used to the straighter leading edge, the weight and appearance just inspire confidence. I'm also having to get used to the 60* for flop and bunker shots because of the straighter edge, because the Cleveland 60* was much more rounded.

As for the Del Mar 3.5, it is my favorite putter of all time, haha. I grew up using an old Cleveland blade and a Wilson 8813, but was having trouble lining up my putts, so this was the perfect heel shafted putter for me. The Pro Plat line doesn't feel as soft as the other Cameron lines, IMO, but it works well for me.

That's good to know actually, because I have been looking around at MP-32/67s on eBay, among others.

Thanks. I actually went the other way, when I was junior I never hit long irons well, probably because I was a skinny little kid with no SS, haha. As I've gotten older and stronger, long irons have become the strength of my game. :D

Thanks, they do huh? :D I hit them at the range for the first time yesterday and I LOVE the feedback I get from them. There is definitely more feedback than the Revolutions on the off center hits. When I hit them flush, it truly is buttery soft, the way a forged club should be. However, I can't say that they are softer than the Maxflis. Then again, I was hitting them off a range mat, so we'll see when I get on the course.
