I picked up a tour issue steelhead 3 from Callaway golf preowned last year and it's very under rated .It has a NV 75x proto shaft in it.

Well my favorites are the TM200 steel tour ridgy 15*, then the Clev 15* and last the Callaway steel head. In that order. Definitely a tough club to hit repeatably for me also.

I switched to the Cleveland for 2 reasons. 1 the head is a bit bigger and I thought that would head in the forgiveness and off the tee, and 2nd is because I bought a Comp and wanted my bag to match.

The 200 tour though has been in the bag for a long time. Had the cally's come and go and always found myself loving the TM. I am going to give this Clev a shot and see if it lasts

Here is the Clev and the 200 tour side by side...

Really there are so many great options out there right now it makes it a tough pick. I have have great success with the V-steel and will try the VS2 next week. I always loved the 200 ridgie but the V-steel I can hit just a bit higher of the deck. The cleveland launcher is great along with the bbd as well. As far as shafts go, the pro95 is a all-time favorite as well as the trti.

I just switched to a Tour Launcher and I'm loving it. The Shaqx is a perfect shaft for this club. I started out with a Tour Spec 869 X tipped 1 1/2" and it felt very limber through the swing. I hit the launcher so bad that I was going to sell it. Thank God I decided to go ahead and test the Shaqx. I am finally comfortable with a 3 wood. It's been the one club that I couldn't get right. I think it's all about the shaft.

If you want a stupid easy 3 wood, go for a Cobra SZ. Not the longest out there, but stupid easy to hit.

I dropped the V-Steels 15* and 17* both with VT90D in favour of BBD Type N 13* Fuji 757x and Type N 17* with AccraSC75x.

Both Type-Ns are still in my bag. I was rather surprised that they performed well with the "lighter" shafts I have in them now.

I get a low boring flight with the 13*. Since it doesn't fly too high, I always have the feeling that it might just stop being in the air and drop around 200 yards, but I can actually carry it around 240 or so off the deck.

The 17* Type N with the Accra gets a pretty high trajectory but I wouldn't call it balloning and lands softly around 220.

So far both works for me, but I am thinking of experimenting with Diamanas in the heads.

I have been playing the sz for well over a year now and love it. Easy to hit from the turf. I was hitting it long before it was rated the top club on golf digests 'hotlist'. (which I put no faith in btw)

I have had the new Sonartec SS-3.5 for about three weeks now and love it. I had the NP99 before (along with almost every other 3-wood mentioned in this thread - except the Cleveland), but never liked it as much as my old SS-03, with HM4. The SS-3.5 is like the SS-03, but a bit easier to hit off the deck. It's a monster off the tee, too.

I had a Nippon NS Pro 950 steel shaft installed and have had good luck. I also have the Nippon in a couple of my hybrids: they are fantastic fairway wood shafts. They are in the mid 90 gram range and get the ball up very nicely.

Another nice head that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Mizuno Hot Metal.

Have you ever tried a Kasco KP 99? They are awesome if you can find one.

About to shaft a Type H and see what all the fuss is about.

2615[/snapback]

I have tried all of those... my best success has been with the clevelands and vft... I really wonder if(and I haven't yet) The right shaft makes all the difference in a 3 wood.. I think I need to experiment with one head and a handful of shafts and sort it all out.

btw- the type H is nice, but felt you have to be a techie to hit it pure and get everything out of it on each shot.. too demanding for me.

I play the R5 3 wood (and R5 5 wood)....I have to say that this club is indeed stupid easy to hit....extremely forgiving, and just rockets off the face...I'm more of a swinger and with a smooth tempo, this club hits very long with nice penetrating flight (shaft = NV 65 R).

I'd definitely recommend you demo it...may be your ticket!
