Masse1369's WITB - UPDATED ***First Update in 2 Years***

Recommended Posts

First Update in over 2 years! I have searched the earth for the past 2 years in order to find the best golf equipment. I lived in caves in Japan where some of the best steel is found. I am finally back and I am very happy with everything in my bag.

(The above is translated as I was a PXG rep for a couple of years and was on the road a lot and didn't post here much at all. Also, when I say I am very happy with everything in my bag that means it can change at a moments notice. Now on to the good stuff!)

I built every single one of them. SW are pretty much spot on progressive from D2-D5 (driver thru wedges). All lengths are too end of grip on Mitchell Club Length ruler. Added picture of my "shop."

Equipment:

Very nice setup. The irons look great and after your treatment almost like new.

Always liked the J33R, killer combo with the Rombax Z, don´t think I could get you driver off the ground. ;)

A Byron putter would be the perfect addition to your bag, one more classic stick.

Sweet 'classic' setup. Rocket Tours and a new putter will round out the bag nicely, but the B'stone hdcvr matches the bag perfectly.

You usually don't want to bet with someone who still bags irons and wedges from the past decade. ;)

Yeah, the driver came with the black/yellow one so I sold that and got the red one. LOL! I would want the black/red tassel cover for the 3 wood and the red victory stripe one for the hybrid. I just bought that hybrid head too. I had a 20º Idea Pro before with the same shaft and liked the shaft a lot. My old bag I carried 4 wedges and decided I would rather have a 3 iron and a stronger hybrid. I'm gonna bend the 60º to 58º too. Thanks for all the nice comments!!

I'm just getting back into golf. Probably can't break 80 right now on a decent course. Was a +2 when I graduated high school, played in college for a year and then quit. Too much fun at FSU... :D Played off and on for a couple of years after college and then just started hitting the ball again after about a 3-4 year hiatus. Things are finally feeling like they used to. I had a buddy tape me, and I couldn't believe how far off the ball I was moving on my takeaway. Had a real bad case of the high blocks. Couple of more weeks and I should be presentable on the course again... LOL!

Cracking set. 962Bs and 588s never go out of fashion and that BTY is a lovely club.

Full marks for the pennypinching too. As a Yorkshireman I also know a thing or two about not spending more money than is absolutely necessary.

Keep at it and the old magic will be back in the hands before you know it.

Don't know yet. Bought them this morning, extended them a 1/4" and slapped some new grips on them this afternoon. Thus prompting me to update my WITB thread. :D

I'm really excited about my new putter that I am getting ready to purchase. Been going back and forth with ideas with Chris from Machine...Almost got everything the way I want it...just waiting for some final little touches...

I love it. Around the greens it is really nice. I don't open the face up a lot like some do. I played some courses in GA this past week that had more elevation than I usually play around here and much firmer sand. I would need some time to adjust to the bottom because the back flange would catch sometimes, especially in the firmer sand when I was trying to hit a short soft shot. I would say it plays very similar to a K-Grind in Titleist. I'm going to pick up another one and strip it and get somebody to grind it off some so that doesn't happen and make it a little more versatile. It is fantastic off tight lies. I play lower spinning type chip shots and it works very well for those types of shots. I haven't played a non raw wedge since...well I have never played one and there isn't really any glare. It is very flat. Eventually I'm going to pick up another and have it ground and raw like I said. I will then pick up a MD3 raw 52 as well.

Regripped my irons this morning. Really love these grips, just can't mess with cord anymore (replaced MCC+4). Also included a short video for some of you wanting to start regripping at home to save some coin on how to quickly remove that pesky tape! Keep the torch moving and just give it a quick warm up. If you are doing steel shafts, just take your razor and slice right down the middle of the shaft and the tape will peel right off. You can use the torch on graphite too, just keep it moving and do it for only a few seconds and peel the tape back with your hands. Make sure it's not too hot and obviously don't use the razor!

How does the reduction in taper of the Justin Rose Lamkins compare to the MCC+4? Lamkin said the Rose grips are like adding 2 additional wraps under bottom half. I tried a CP2 Pro w/3 extra full wraps as I normally play Midsize and liked the reduced taper. Regripping wedges and gonna try the std Lamkin REL 3Gen w/extra full wraps but 2 extra under bottom hand to simulate the Rose grips. Also trying tour velvet midsize w/2 wraps under bottom hand. Tour velvets are 10g lighter than the Lamkins in midsize.

MCC+4 is 4 wraps. JR is 2 wraps. I mix and match the regular ones with 2 wraps and they feel the same. The MCC+4 honestly feels too big to me, in comparison to the upper hand. I do like them but I just don't jive with cord grips and it does feel a little too big for my personal liking on the lower hand. I have average size hands (CML glove) but prefer a slightly larger grip (+1/32"). I build everything off a .580 grip on a .600 butt and prefer two wraps of painters tape on the lower hand or the JR straight on. I will stretch grips slightly on bigger butt shafts and it is fine too. I always felt the Lamkins felt bigger than the GP TV in the same size. I measure 5" down the shaft when applying the painter's tape.

My hands sweat a lot and I find the MCC grips just don't work for me in the heavy humidity. I get a better grip with the REL Ace 3Gen and it's much easier on the hands.

Finally got my shaft in for my utility to test out. Will report back later today with results. Hopefully I hit this in the 225 range. I fear I might hit it kind of high but we shall see. Weird the shaft weighed 112g which is 5g lighter than I was expecting. Built it with a 5g tip weight at stock length (39.5") and came out to around D2.5 SW. It has a very nice balance too it.
