Shreve's WITB

Recommended Posts

Titleist and Mizuno fan's gear
I overhauled the bag to begin the season and have been fairly happy with the results. The irons definitely have endeared themselves to me and I am warming to the driver. The wedges are still a fickle lot, but the putter is a mainstay.

Comments are welcome and appreciated.

Shreve's bag:

Driver: Titleist 905R, 9.5*, Fujikura Pro 95- S flex

I really like the set-up with this driver, and have improved my accuracy after switching from a 8.5 to a 9.5. The Fuji Pro 95 is a heavy shaft that has provided me with a little better feel than some lighter shafts and has tempered my occasionally "handsy" transition moves. The lone caveat is the trajectory. My SS was last measured at 111-116 mph and the 905R launches rather high, which can be occasionally troublesome in New England. I have an 8.5* version with a Diamanan 83 X-flex en route that may work its way into the bag, especially on windy days. Still, a very solid driver with great carry.

3 wood: Cleveland Launcher (steel), 13*, Graphite Design YS-7- X flex

Really nice, no frills fairway wood. I can work it both ways and feel confident with this guy from off the tee or the deck. The 13* can put the ball out there a good ways, and I have gone to this club more often this year than in the past on tight driving holes. The look at address is similar enough to Titleist offerings that there is consistency to my eye from driver on down. This guy is well-behaved.

Hybrid: Cleveland HALO, 16*, Dynamic Gold X-100

I balked at putting a hybrid in the bag for the longest time. I always hit them left with their exaggerated offset. The HALO is a little more straight up and square, so I gave it a whirl. The jury is still out on this club and once in a while I miss my 2-iron. I am hoping to get in a groove with the HALO so it will be my machinic, no brainer, find a fairway club. The loft is a touch low for the versatility I desire, and I may check out the Titleist 585 in 18* or so.

Irons (3-PW): Mizuno MP-60, Dynamic Gold X-100

Hyperbole aside, these irons could cure diseases. I love the ballflight, the feel, and the look at address. My first forged irons since high school, the MP-60s are forgiving enough to aid my erratic playing schedule and performance, yet precise enough that when I am striking it well I can zero in a little more. They also look pretty. Excellent sticks.

Wedges: Mizuno MP-T black Ni 53.8 and 58.10, Dynamic Gold S-300

Ughhh, they look good and have nice feel. I just need someone else to swing 'em. Honestly, my wedge game has been so flimsy recently that I shouldn't even evaluate them at this time. I switched from a 60* to a 58* in order to closes the gap in my yardages and think it was the right move. Time will tell with these clubs.

Putter: Ping Zing 2i

As familiar to me as my right foot, I love this putter's weight. It feels good in my hands and I have rolled a lot of good ones with it. This will be tough to replace. The insert is some sort of plastic. Terrific. The stubbiness of the blade really looks pleasant at address.

Thanks for the replies.

Jack- The MP-60s are great clubs. Unfortunately, they only play like the guy swinging them. When I'm bad, they are too. Still, they are more forgiving than I thought they would be. Soft with a nice mid-high trajectory. Also, I haven't heard many comment on this, but I think the MP-60s fire through the rough very nicely.

Vthokie- I can hit it 3 bills, but that is certainly not my average. I still hit my fair share of "necked" bunts and "toed" drop kicks. My average is probably about 280. I generate most of my club head speed from my height (I am 6'3''), but this season I am working towards greater consistency and more fairways. Sometimes it is a struggle.
