AP1 710 and/or R9 and consistent distances

Was wondering how these new thin faced irons are on shot dispersion

To all those who have been lucky enough to try out the new AP1 710 and R9 irons on the course how would you rate these on shot dispersion and hitting your consistent distances, shot after shot?

After much reading on the technology used to engineer these irons it seems the new thin face technology employed in irons might cause inconsistent distances. Personally I like to step up to a shot and know my irons will go the allocated distance time after time. I'm not too concerned with irons I can hit a mile really (although that is a nice to have but rather want/like irons that go consistent distances. I've generally played some form of players irons in the past but after playing a few rounds with some GI clubs I think I can kinda get used to really high and straight. So needless to say my S57's w/ KBS S flex irons are on the chopping block, which I just purchased last year! It's funny cause before I started frequenting this forum/site I use to keep irons for at least 5-6 years minimum. However I'm hoping the next set I get will last me longer then the S57's.

Ok, well again any info from AP1 710 and R9 users in regards to shot dispersion and more importantly distance consistency would be much appreciated.

It is certainly possible, and very probable.

Lots of manufacturers make irons that are not consistent, but most people do not care and the pros get sets from the tour vans that are matched so that they will play them... but this is not offered to us. Mostly, this is due to less rigor in manufacturing process leading to different tolerances in each club. Usually, each iron will play mostly the same, they just vary from one iron to the next - for example, 7 iron goes 150, 6 iron 170 and 5 iron 175. Obviously, the 6 is off. This can also happen with the shafts too.

I hit about 40 balls with a AP1 710 and all were within a few yards and it felt good. I will never play another TM club again - they have done nothing but let me down for 12 years - so I don't know about the R9 iron...sorry.

Don't compare the clubs to each other since they will have different lofts and stuff... just compare each iron in the set to each other first...and then compare the overall sets to one another.

For my money, Titleist, Scratch, Miura and Mizuno are winners time and again in consistency. Nike is pretty good with consistency as well.
