Taylor Made?
Dunno. Could be one of the old (Mizuno)Tour Proven metalwoods circa '92-'93. Nice little club with a single rail on the sole.
Even more possible as I know that all the Taylor Made silver headed woods around that time had like inverted dimples round the back of the head. This club appears to be smooth.

It looks like one of the mid '90s Taylor Made Burner woods to me. The ones that had no dimpling on the periphery and which were fitted to the very first Bubble-shafted woods before the orange-coloured heads. I had a driver at one time and, from what I remember, the sole markings were similar.

I'm guessing the photo is from '95 or so.

That's what I thought it was as well. Just from the sole markings that was my first guess. Hard to say definitively from that pic though.

Here is a set of Mizuno T-Zoid Pro irons used by Faldo at various times throughout the years of 1996 and 1997 in competition. I believe that they are now actually owned by another fellow WRX member and as it explains in the certificate of authenticity it states that the serial numbers stamped on the back of each hosel indicates the player for whom they are made for, the year made and the grind specifications. Faldo often combined clubs manufactured in different years to perfectly match a set for play.

1-iron (NF 97-01), 2-iron (NF 96-11), 3-iron (NF 96-09), 4-iron (NF 96-10), 5-iron (NF 96-11), 6-iron (NF 96-11), 7-iron (NF 97-01), 8-iron (NF 97-01), 9-iron (NF 96-11), PW (NF 96-09)

Faldo was probably using these. These are not his personal ones. Driver is Rocco Mediate's and the 13* was David Duvals.

That's the fella.

Unfortunately I gave away my Mk I Bubble-shafted driver with that same grey head a few years back after I had a bad run with it and went back to an old Cobra driver. Along with flogging a set of TP19s it's my biggest equipment regret in all my years of golfing.

Was it the case that the Taylor Made Burner Midsize woods were grey and the standard version was orange as pictured !?

I'm saying 'no' Paul as I've seen grey ones (fairway woods as per the Faldo pic above) that weren't midsized in my time. From what I remember they were pretty rare beasts in either colour and ran pretty much concurrently with the more common orange-jobs with the K-shaped sole feature, albeit I remember the grey ones first appearing a little earlier. Olazabal won at Augusta with a pair in April '94 and I reckon I got my grubby mitts on that driver at the back end of that year via a friend who was on the tour at the time. From what I remember, the orange-headed funny-soled ones that every man and his dog had at one time or another didn't appear until early on in 2005.

The one I had was a midsized driver with a Mk I Bubble shaft - basically the same as the eventual version of that shaft but without the orange bit at the top or loads of graphics on it - and I remember a friend having a grey-coloured spoon that was quite compact and didn't have a midsize monicker on the sole. Basically like that one of Duval's above. But, as I say, grey.

They're pretty rare beasts those woods. I've only seen perhaps four or five of the things in person. The Bubble shafts were great fun. First you had to have the patience of Job - and a decent contact or two - to get hold of a proper grip for them: the cord one. Then you taught everyone in the house a few new words and phrases as you tried to get it onto the shaft without the aid of one of those funnel-shaped plastic grip applicators. Happy days.

Actually, gentlemen, the five wood pictured is a Mizuno Pro Model which as Matt correctly stated earlier is very similar to the old hot-metal in shape. This wood is featured prominently in Faldo's instructional book, "A Swing for Life". By the way. if you get a chance to find a copy of same it is definitely worth the read with well-written ideas and sensational photography.

Back on topic in the book it clearly shows Faldo's TPs that he won The Open Championships with, the afore-mentioned pro model 3 and 5 woods, a lovely BeCu B60, and Wilson Staff JP hand ground 53* & 59* wedges.

Below is a couple of pictures of Nick Faldo's Mizuno TP-19 irons. They were different from the released retail version as shown at the very bottom with there being no TP-19 stamping visible on the side of the hosel, his had TP-19 NF stamped on the back of each hosel and his also came with the bold solid 'MP style' numbering on the sole rather than the outlined European style numbering which was present on most TP models.

That photo was taken at the 2001 Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth when he was out of contract and I think still going through that complicated situation with Adams. Notice the blank bag, glove and headcovers with the Mizuno Staff towel and TP-19's half covered in lead !

Under those headcovers was a Titleist 975 driver and 975F 3-wood.

His putter was a Scotty Cameron Del Mar 3.5 Tour in black.

Not that one mate. The other one - with 15 clubs in it. :D

I remember seeing Faldo at another PGA Championship around that time when he was carrying a blank bagful of Ping i3 O-Size irons - but with the 8-PW made up of Mizuno blades. Very odd.

Speaking of Adams, I remember seeing him at an Open Championship one year when he was sporting a big Adams bag with what looked like his Masters-winning Mizuno irons from a couple of years earlier in it. The lone Adams club was the driver, one of those neutral-faced things, which he was hitting like a dog. It may have been a heat of the moment thing, but he came out with some most uncomplementary words about the quality of Adams clubs as he thumped it into the bag after another wide one. Not long afterwards, they parted company.

Of course ! Sorry I was a bit slow there mate............2001 British Open Final Round + Woosnam + Miles Byrne = 15 Clubs and a two stroke penalty !!! Priceless !

Yeah that Ping i3 O-Size bag with a mix of Mizuno blades was at the 2002 Volvo PGA.

Not a great copy and my name isn't John but this was an Adams promotional photocard for Faldo and it has blatantly got a full set of Mizuno TP-19 irons sticking out of the bag as you witnessed at The Open. Absolutely ridiculous !!!

Mind you they did try and make some effort in disguising them by plastering lead tape over the Tour Proven stamping..................had us all well fooled considering Adams didn't even produce a set of blades !?!

That looks about right. To be fair, the much heralded Faldo-designed Adams irons never materialised and, at that time, Adams simply didn't have any irons for him to play. From memory they signed up Anthony Wall at about the same time and he was bagging a set of Zing 2s and a trio of Cleveland wedges for the time he was with them.

I don't remember Big Nick even playing the Faldo-monickered Adams wedges for more than five minutes either. As with his Wilson days, he was never a great advert for his sponsor's tackle unless you were talking about Mizuno.
