Spining Tools

Hi All,

 

I wanted to get a tool so that I can start spining clubs. Does anyone have any suggestions for which tools are best and why this is so?

 

I was looking at the following for example:

those will do just fine. you'll need a vise with a shaft holder and you could do it the old way, just bounce the club till it wobbles up and down with no ovaling

Just got one of these myself...works great! According to the literature that comes with it, it can also do a pretty good job of FLO'ing too, without the need for a laser and all that.

those are neat tools. so what is actually better, spining or flowing ? how close to each other are they. can you achieve both or do you have to choose one or the other ? i plan on reshafting a set of irons myself and if the tool is cheaper than having the shaft set pured before i recieve them i may opt for the tool

I'm still old school with fishing line and a vice. Works!

Just like this.

Install club head with fishing line, so the shaft acts as its glued in. Vice the butt end of the club in a vice with a rubber shaft chuck, then pull the club about two inches towards you in the center of the shaft and let go of it. At this point the club will bounce around and the head will either move side to side or bounce around in an oval.Keep turning the head until the club bounces side to side, you have found the spine when you get a side to side motion.

Never realized how difficult words could make this sound, its quite simple to be honest.

I am just about to pull the trigger on the vice & bearing type device which seem to be the most common.

I am just wary that on the page for the aformentioned tool it mentions that bearing type devices can cause shaft damage?

The more basic tool from myostrich should be perfect. Plus, the owner of that shop is great and will probably be willing to help in whatever you need as well. Im not sure if he hangs out at WRX, but I know he's on some other golf MBs...
