How long should it take a coach to e-mail you back?

I e-mailed a coach my resume and recent tournament results telling them I'm interested in their school a couple days ago. I was wondering how long it should take for a coach to e-mail you back?

 

One of the colleges I talked to e-mailed me right back but the school I really like hasn't emailed me back yet...should I be worried.

i'd say give it a week, then try and call the coach

Some coaches are really flakey. I sent out my resume and transcript to at least 15 schools a couple times. Then I sent them a video of my swing. After about a month and a half of waiting, I'd gotten responses from maybe 10, and almost none within the first couple weeks of sending the emails. Funny story, the coach who is now supporting me didn't respond at all to my emails, and when I got my golf coach (who played for him a few years ago) to call, that's when things started to work out. Bottom line, these guys can be REALLY flakey, but it's true you gotta be persistent.

You have to be very persistent in any sport you choose when trying to play in college, as most of it is political.

100% agree, unless your tiger( as in golfing greatness), be annoying.

i see your from missouri. so am i. which coaches have you sent stuff to? which schools? maybe i can help. Im in college right now

Emails are really easy to either ignore or forget about. In business and in life, if it's a really important email a follow up call is generally warranted and more difficult to ignore or put off until later. You might want to call his office and ask if and when the coach has office hours and call back during that time.

It also would be a good idea to have your email open in front of you and to have a few additional talking points, just in case.

Lindenwood, Iowa, Iowa state

Lindenwood should be pretty easy to get into. They have a HUGE golf team. I think around 45 or 50. they will send like 3 or 4 golf teams to different tournaments at the same time. Iowa will be a little tougher to get into because they have some players that are well know nationally. I know someone that went there this year. Iowa state will send you a questionaire if you send them your stuff through the mail(not email). then if you meet their criteria from there they will contact you. My advise would be to call these coaches. It may be annoying and intrusive but they will know your name and you will have their attention. good luck

keep in mind the following when submitting your resume:
1) What time of season you send it in - coaches may be less likely to return emails in the middle of the season
2) The type of coach - is he or she full time/part time. Part time coaches have other things on their plates, whereas full time coaches get paid to recruit etc.
3) The NCAA rules - there are many rules prohibiting/limiting contact between coaches and recruits. This may be why some coaches take a bit longer than others when it comes to replying.

Keep being persistant, they will get back to you. If you put the work in, it will pay off

Response times ranged form same day--to 1 week for response. Some did not respond to first email but did to second email.

My coach said he gets anywhere from 40-70 resumes a week and will respond to ones he is interested in right away...normally less than 10 of a week he responds to. I say if you haven't gotten a response after a week, try sending another email, maybe a phone call. Dont give up but the more you send out the more responses/offers you are going to get.

its also winter break so golf coaches are not likely to be at the school. but i agree with what ohers are saying, when i was in the recruiting process many coaches just don't respond at first, and then if you call them and talk to them a few times times theyll start begging. its pretty pathetic sometimes.

Winter is also a slow time..might be a good time to send out info..and get responses.
