shaft weight in woods

should the driver shaft weight match the fw's?
recently put a ust proforce v2 65 stiff in my driver (D3ish) and couldn't be happier and I am thinking of putting the same shaft into my 3 & 5 wood. Currently have the stock system III graphite stiff shaft in my woods which callaway says is D0. A couple of questions arise from this, if i were to put the proforce v2 in my fairways should i go with the same weight (65g) or a heavier shaft (75g)? Since I don't know the weight of the system III shaft but would putting the new shaft in greatly increase the swingweight? Is it unheard of to put the same shaft in all your woods or should each club warrant a different shaft? Thanks in advance for any help the guru's out there can provide.

Generally you put a heavier shaft in a FW - but its not always the case. The golf industry has set standards for head weights for each class of club. Fairway woods are shorter in length then a driver, so the head weight and shaft weight have to be different to maintain the same swing weight. There is also the concept of counter balancing, where the weight of the shaft is spread out in non traditional places, so a heaver shaft, will have the swing weight of a lighter shaft. It all just makes your head hurt - especially if you really don't care :friends:

The easy answer is, put the 75 gram in your fairway woods - but the real answer would be get each club check and blueprinted by a professional if you're really worried about swing weight. Most people could hold a D1 driver and a D4 driver and not know the different. Also, many are use to a specific set up in the old woods - a set up that may be way off wthere the driver was D4 and the woods are C4. If they played a set that had the same swing weight, they may feel uncomfortable. It all comes down to your personal feel, and finding something that you can groove. If you're picky, send them to JK - if not, just put the 75 gram shaft in it.

That's a good reply.

It's a lot more technical than just saying put a 75 in but at the end of the day that's probably the best bet. The standard shaft at the moment is probably closer to 60 (you might be able to find out for sure on Callaway's website). There's normally always a way of fitting any shaft to any club head but ask the same question to your pro or clubfitter and they'll have all the answers regarding swing weights etc.

Most of us are trying to achieve different things with our driver than our fairways and if you look at the guys bags in WITB the majority have a heavier shaft in their fairway woods.

I love the NV65 in my driver. I assumed I would like it equally in my 4W. That was not the case. It did not like now if felt or performed. I got a slightly heavier shaft in it now and I am killing it. The extra 5-10 grams in in Fuji Vista Pro 70 really makes a difference. I feel like I have more control over the club.

I don't know the technical aspects of it, but I know i like the heavier shaft in my 4W
