Tourstage Z101 - Recommended handicap range?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I know this question can be pretty subjective and depend on a number of variables, but I was hoping to get some opinions on what type of player (handicap range, etc.) should play the Tourstage Z101 irons?

Thanks!

Any Handicapper can hit them.... it's just a question of wether you can live with the results of mishits? Does the feel of a mishit iron depress you? Does it bother you that a mishit has cost you yardage? Maybe they will teach you to be a better ball striker? Maybe you are desperate to get your handicap down?

Really only you can decide.

That question can only be really answered by trying them. What I would say is that the long irons are easy(er) to launch due to the tungsten weighting, than most players CBs.

Buy some, if they don;t work out you can move them on much easier than many other irons out there.

Thanks for your reply.

Mishits don't really bother me that much as as they are part of the game - even pros do it. I just try and figure out what I did wrong and focus on trying to not do it again.

I'm really trying to work on my game, as you mentioned improving my ball striking and getting my handicap down through course time, range time and lessons.

Firstly I do not own the Z101 nor I have ever played them but by just looking irons and the design, I would guess it is probably designed with lower handicap golfers in mind. It is not your typical game improvement or super game improvement irons. Then again, a lot of people prefer to learn golf with blade irons. For my own golfing enjoyment, I prefer a more forgiving irons nowadays, such as ViQ or XXIO or Epon 701. That's just me.

From my experience I'd say 0-10 handicap would be the ideal range. They pretty much set-up like modern musclebacks at address as they are pretty compact...especially heel to toe. But I think they are very forgiving for their size... especially the long irons (3,4,5). The sweet-spot is not the size of an pencil eraser or anything...they're pretty generous.

Personally, these irons have helped me to lower my handicap dramatically. I was about a 12 handicap when I purchased these irons and its currently down to about a 6 thanks to the Z's. I find if I do mishit a club, usually my miss is still playable around or just off the green. With other irons I'd be a lot further away. Also, as corky mentioned, when you pure one of these clubs there really isn't any better feeling in golf!

Thanks everyone for your advice and info - all good stuff!

I took the plunge - Z101 3i - pw with TT Black Gold Reg Flex shafts (lucky enough to find a set in 8+ condition!). I'll probably game the 4i - pw. Let the games begin!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I took a leap when I bought mine purely based on all the good reviews on this website and couldn't be happier. Those TT Black Gold shafts should make them feel extra good :clapping: . Good Luck!

Thanks - I'm sure after reading all of the positive reviews, etc. that they will work out well (range time!!!).

I also forgot to mention that a new Z101 2 iron came with the set shafted with a PX 5.5.

They were also bent 2* upright, which as I've been fitted twice over the last year seem to be the consensus fit for my swing (fitted with 775CB's).

Between them already being 2* upright and the TT Black Gold in R flex - couldn't pass them up - it's like someone built them for me!

Yes, it was me. Clubs look great and I'm going to try and get out ASAP to him them (26 degrees and windy today here in NNJ).

I'm not quite to the single digits yet, but I'm sure these will help me get there!

Thanks

Bought a set Z101 heads last winter, too damn pretty to just be sitting there so i finally sent them in to be shafted. Only problem is i have numerous favourite shafts to choose from and can't make up my mind what to use. This thread hopefully will help me make up my mind, kinda want to hit these dang things. lol
