Questions for you Sonartec junkies (Or any other hybrid user!!!)

I currently have a 5 wood and a Sonartec MD 21* with Irod Stiff.

My 5 wood is a 904 19* with YS6+ stiff....it seems to play stiffer than my 904 3 wood with the same shaft (Perhaps the shorter length makes it play stiffer?) so, I always end up blocking it right....just cant get it turned over. So, its GONE.

Would I notice more distance from a MD 19* with Irod Stiff???

I just want to have my spacing right with gaps, and would be bummed if the MD 19* only went 5 yards further than the 21*

FYI:

here is the gap I am looking at:

3 wood 904 15* 250 tee/240 deck
GAP (5 wood is out)
Md 21* 210 Tee/205 deck
695 cb 4 iron (dont carry the 3) DGS300 195tee/190 deck

I have a 21*,19*, and a 15* MD. I am only carrying the 19&15. I hit the 19 about 220 off the tee, the 15 is about 240 off the tee. I think from what you posted I would be about a club shorter than you. I hit my 4 iron 187 off the tee 3 iron 203. There was about a 15 yard difference from the 21 to the 19, I just prefer hitting the 3 iron to the 21*.

I was wondering about using the MD 15* instead of a 3 wood. Does it work really well for you? What about any loss of distance?

I was wondering the same thing. I am thinking of going the 15* and 19* route and getting rid of my 3 wood.

I would estimate that the MD plays one club weaker than its corresponding fairway wood in each respective loft. It has a shorter shaft so you get a little less zip on it, but you gain 2:1 control:loss of distance in the exchange. The MD 19 plays shorter than my 5 wood, but still a viable replacement.

I hit my TRC 18 (5 wood) about 235 carry and it sticks....

 

I hit my MD 19 about 225 carry and 15 yds run (hot flight)

 

I hit my MD 21 about 220 carry and 5 yds run (softer landing)

I alternate the md 15 and a 15 degree 3 wood depending on the wind. the md is a superior wind club. the trajectory is boring and the ball goes right through the wind and runs out quite a bit. on a calm day, I get more carry from the 3 wood

I have been converted to the MD. I now carry a Ping G5 15* fairway metal and the MD 19* with the iRod stiff. This is the best fairway/ hybrid combination I've ever played with - the MD is great and I really like the more penetrating flight it gives. I've ordered up an MD 15* just to see what its like and I don't think I'll be disappointed. The only thing (being a lover of all things Titleist) that might offer this combo some competition is the upcoming release of the 906F fairway and 585H hybrid - although their predecessors, the 904F and 503.H, were a great disappointment.

I have an Md 21° that I love and can't imagine taking out of the bag. I hit it so well that I decided to try a 14° Nickent 3DX Ironwood that a friend had as a 3-wood replacement. I know Nickent and Sonartec are apples and oranges, but I didn't like using a hybrid as a 3-wood for the couple rounds I tried it. A head that small with that little loft is hard for me to hit with consistency, and the shorter shaft hurts for distance. I think 19-21° is about as low as I would go with a hybrid-sized head. My 2 cents.
