My team trainer has us do alot of core stabilization including tons of different planks. We also do one workout entirely with medicine balls. Our trainer used to be the trainer for the NY Yankees and Cleveland Indians and he said we basically do the same workout just with less weight and more reps to produce long lean muscles.

I graduated a few years ago but we did the following:

August through November and March through May (in season) 2 day a week workouts
December through February (winter/off season) 3 day a week workouts

Our workouts consisted heavily of leg and core strengthening exercises but was overall very balanced. Squats, abs, pull downs, lower back, upright rows, presses and combo moves along with some cardio.

We focused on building a solid core/foundation while maintaining good flexibility. Once you got a bit stronger, you could really feel the benefits in the swing. More stable. I think it also added a bit of confidence as I really felt like an athlete.

We worked with the same trainers that worked with the tennis, baseball and hoops teams.

We train with a TPI certified trainer and we do a lot of yoga/pilates based exercises. We have workouts 3 days/week (MWF) for 45 minutes/session. We normally do variations of running (sprints/short runs one day, a 2-mile distance jog other days)...a lot of work with medicine balls: core, work with glutes, hip flexors, etc. A lot of exercises are based for separation of lower and upper body training your body to work separately (keeping lower body still while rotating upper body, vice versa). I feel the workouts have helped me over my year and a half.

Playing at the NAIA level this year as a freshman, but coming out of Canada did my recruiting not very well. WILL be moving on to higher end D2 school next year or mid-low range D1. Have already talked to a few schools. Currently ranked 17th in the nation in NAIA though. Playing out of Hobbs, NM. University of the Southwest. P90X sponsored us as we have their logo on our bags.

Play at a Mountain West Conference school. Our lifts are mostly focused on power, whether it be squats, deadlifts, RDLs, power cleans, or snatch. We usually lift 2-3 times a week as a team with the power lifts then do some back strengthening exercises, and wrap up with core exercises. Cardio is on our own but during the off season we usually play basketball after lift for an hour. And then usually some stretching for maybe 15-20 minutes after lift to work on flexibility. I don't think it's the best golf-specific way to train, but it definitely increases your overall strength and power, which definitely has benefits in golf.

schmeer? is that steve schmeer from sacred heart...I hear ed connolly the coach down there is doing wonders for that program...back to back NEC championships and with a few new young guns coming into the lineup should bode really well for the program.. i dont see that team losing another conference championship any time soon....they just get such great instruction and leadership at that school...any guys should considering playing golf in the northeast should really consider shu as the team in the midst of becoming a powerhouse... all the best in the spring ..
