Moving to La Grange Texas where to play? Join?

Hi all,

I just got the news that I will be relocating to La Grange Texas in the next few weeks and if anyone out there has any insight about local golf courses. Looking to get a membership for my wife and myself. Also any course I must try since I have been winter bound in Illinois for so long. Thanks

Lots of good golf in that area, but can't remember names of courses right now.

Not sure in La Grange but an 1hr east is River Ridge in Sealy. Never played but I've heard so many goods things about that course. Also, a little closer in Columbus is The Falls GC. Welcome to Texas!

Well, as youprobably know, LaGrange is very rural, so you'll have to drive for most of your golf. Couple of good courses in Bastrop (about 30 minutes west) in and Hyatt Lost Pines. The Falls is good too. Best course close is the Bandit in New Braunfels..about 45 minutes away.

Actually played LaGrange country club back in the late 90's. Only 9 holes, with really sloping greens.

The Falls is a great course. River Ridge is also very nice.

Stephen F. Austin State Park is nearby -- nobody mentioned this one yet -- it is a short course but very scenic (and cheap!).

You are moving to a beautiful part of the country. But prepare for a hot summer.

Thanks cant wait for the hot summers. I have lived in Illinois my whole life and as a avid golfer, not being able to hit balls for 4 months out of the year is driving me crazy. Wont have to worry about that anymore. Thanks to all who have posted courses to look for. Have researched The Falls for membership but looking to save some cash this first year so if anyone has had any playing time on the La Grange course please chime in.

Where to play in La Grange? Well, your move there is a little too late for the Chicken Ranch. It was closed down years ago. Oh....that's right, you were talking about playing golf!!!


Near Bastrop (35 miles)
Pine Forest. A fun course to play with some serious elevation changes.
Lost Pines is near Bastrop also in the State Park there. To me, it is an blah course.
There is the Hyatt Lost Pines resort which houses the Wolfdancer Golf Club. It is a great golf course. Don't confuse the name of the Lost Pines golf course in the state park to the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. They are definitely NOT the same place.

As mentioned, The Falls in New Ulm(30 miles). It is a terrific layout. The first couple of holes will lull you to sleep then it jumps up and bites you. Every short par 4 is uphill.

Austin is about 60 miles away and there are a bunch of very good golf courses in Austin.

Sealy is about 60 miles the other way. River Ridge (27 hole complex and very nice) is nearby. Stephen F Austin is a fun course but not quite the caliber course as River Ridge.
