Moon Palace Cancun - Club Rentals?

I'm headed to Moon Palace in a couple of weeks and am trying to decide if I should bring my own clubs or rent. I plan on only playing twice, and according to the website renting is $30 (or for "premium" clubs, $50). Anyone know what you get for $30 bucks? I'd have to pay Jet Blue $30 each way to bring my clubs, so if the rental clubs are decent I may go that route. Thanks.

If memory serves me correct, the premium clubs are callaways. The normal rentals are some Cobras or TaylorMades. Rental clubs get turned over every year or two, especially at resorts. I believe there is an 1-800 number for palace you can call to find out exactly. Enjoy the vacation.

My tip would be to pack some golf balls as they are astronomically priced at the pro-shop.

May I suggest a round at the Iberostar Golf Club (just down the street from the Moon Palace). Course is awesome, Canadian Tour Event played there and cost is like $90 after 12! Moon Palace is nice, but several people said that the Iberostar was a way better deal.

We were there last year, and the rentals I saw were Callaway. We brought our own clubs, as I would anywhere that I planned to play (we only played twice in ten days also). I don't find it enough of a hassle not to.

In 2005, Non-Premiums were Srixon. Premiums were TMs. Putters were PINGs.

I only know one thing about the rental clubs at Moon Palace. They're not yours.

Personally, I always tote my own sticks. This way you have all [b]your[/b] stuff, balls, tees, shoes, band aids, towels... all the stuff. Plus, the Club Glove travel bag makes the best laundry sack for dirty clothes on the way home.

In your case, it's a wash as far as the cost goes....

Had a great time playing golf, ended up going with the rentals. When I was there they just had one rate for rentals, $30. I had my choice of Srixon, Callaway, Nike, Mizuno, Taylor Made. I went with the Callaways and got Big Bertha 2007 driver/woods, and X-20 irons. TaylorMades would have been R7s. Not sure about the others.

Balls in the pro shop were over $30 for a dozen new pinnacles. Or you can buy used balls for about a dollar each. So pack plenty of balls. Out of bounds here is thick and dense jungle so if you lose a ball its gone.

We stayed at the resort through a member, and got a discounted golf rate of $70 a round, which was a great deal. Course was a nice layout and in excellent condition.

Would have loved to have gotten to play Iberostar but didn't have time to head over there this time around.

My rentals were a beat up old set of Nike Pro Combo Forged, with Nike NDS woods. the irons had stiff shafts and the woods had regular flex shafts, all graphite.

The comment about the jungle is right. If you miss the fairway wide either direction, you might as well be prepared to drop one, because it is gone. The course was in great shape when we went in the last week of Feb.

As I recall the Rentals looked pretty decent. The other posters have it spot on. I wish I would have went the rental route, because that last round at the Moon Place was the last time I ever played with my old set of clubs. Lost/stolen by the airlines on the way home!!
